Job Summary Working closely with the Closing Manager the Assistant Closing Manager is responsible for providing leadership and direction within the club and driving club performance. Specifically overseeing, when you are the MOD, recovery, utility, and Perishable departments (Produce, Meat, Bakery, Deli, Dairy/Freezer) as well as overnight prep to ensure all areas are clean, stocked, and ready for morning open. In addition to team leadership, the manager is accountable for maintaining policies and procedures, delivering a positive service experience to members, providing Grand Opening Look Daily (GOLD) club conditions, and providing leadership and direction within the club. The Assistant Closing Manager assists in audit compliance efforts, drives collaboration with Business Partners (BPs), and oversees onboarding, certification, and training to ensure food safety and operational excellence. This role also serves as Manager on Duty (MOD) for the club as needed, taking full responsibility for club operations, team leadership, and Member engagement during assigned shifts. A valid ServSafe Food Safety Certification is required and must be maintained in good standing. In Florida, this role must obtain a qualifier certification through the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services for retail propane oversight. Must complete yearly certification for a forklift license. BJu2019s covers any applicable cost associated and training. Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities u2022 Own end-of-day execution: Oversee Recovery, Utility, and Perishable departments (Produce, Meat, Bakery, Deli, Dairy/Freezer) as well as overnight prep to ensure all areas are clean, stocked, and ready for morning open. Lead by presence: Actively walk the floor during closing hours to observe execution, engage with Members, and support team performance. u2022 Maintain GOLD Standards through close: Guarantee a Greet, Anticipate, Appreciate (GAA) and Fast, Friendly, Full, Fresh, Clean experience is delivered until the last Member exits the building. u2022 Ensure full-functioning departments through closing: Validate that registers remain open, perishable stations are attended, and all service areas are operational through the final Member transaction. u2022 Support Member issue resolution: Personally resolve or escalate Member concerns during closing to ensure satisfaction and timely service recovery. u2022 Drive in-stock and freshness: Monitor evening inventory levels, product rotation, culling, and merchandising execution, with a focus on perishable departments. u2022 Enforce sanitation standards: Confirm completion of daily cleaning checklists, sweep logs, waste pulls, and safety protocols to uphold cleanliness and compliance. u2022 Lead Recovery team productivity: Coach Recovery and Utility Clerks to ensure efficient task execution and appropriate zone coverage during closing. u2022 Utilize tools effectively: Leverage Hot List, NAFS, electronic reports, incorrect price sign reports, pallet tag usage, productivity dashboards, and department-level reporting to validate execution and drive efficiency. u2022 Support audit readiness: Ensure all sanitation, cold chain, and safety checklists are completed daily and documentation is fully compliant with audit standards. u2022 Maintain equipment functionality: Identify and escalate issues with compactors, refrigeration units, and cleaning equipment to avoid disruptions in operations. u2022 Coach onboarding and certifications: Reinforce ServSafe, PPE compliance, and departmentspecific training during onboarding and ongoing development of team members. u2022 Drive improvement in underperforming areas: Actively support bottom quartile departments by ensuring follow-through on action plans and daily execution standards to close performance gaps. u2022 Collaborate cross-functionally: Partner with the Closing Manager, Assistant Club Managers, Club Manager, and Department Leads to improve closing routines and enhance the overall member experience. u2022 Conduct quality and date checks: Regularly inspect products for expiration dates and condition, removing any damaged or outdated items to uphold food safety standards u2022 Utilize BJu2019s MY WORK system: Execute assigned tasks and ensure compliance with company initiatives and product liability protocols. u2022 Perform other duties as assigned: Provide operational support outside primary scope as directed by club leadership. u2022 Operate safely and efficiently: Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure compliance and effective equipment use. u2022 Maintain regular, predictable, full attendance: Demonstrate consistent presence as an essential function of the role to support execution and leadership coverage. Qualifications 2 years of experience in retail, supermarket, or warehouse perishable operations preferred. u2022 Experience in managing inventory turnover and waste reduction strategies. u2022 SERV Safe certification required. u2022 High school diploma required; college degree preferred. u2022 Basic computer proficiency (MS Word, Excel, Email) required. u2022 Open shift availability required. u2022 Must be at least 18 years of age. Job Conditions u2022 Frequent movement on hard surfaces and occasional bending, pulling, and reaching. u2022 Regular lifting of up to 30 pounds; occasional heavier lifting with assistance. u2022 Exposure to temperature extremes and loud noises within perishable areas. u2022 Potential exposure to cleaning agents. u2022 Must maintain all training and required certifications. In accordance with the Pay Transparency requirements, the following represents a good faith estimate of the compensation range for this position. At BJu2019s Wholesale Club, we carefully consider a wide range of non-discriminatory factors when determining salary. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, education, experience, and qualifications. The pay range for this position is starting from $20.75.
