Working under the guidance of a Licensed Nurse, the CNA plays a key role in delivering comprehensive health services and ensuring patient safety and well-being. Department: Geriatrics & Extended Care Qualifications: + Current CNA certification in good standing. + 1 year of recent experience + Knowledge of basic patient care procedures and infection control. + Ability to assist with ADLs and provide compassionate care. + Strong communication and documentation skills. Key Responsibilities: + Personal Care & Hygiene + Assist patients with bedpans, urinals, baths, backrubs, shampoos, and shaving. + Help patients travel to the bathroom and provide support for showers and baths. + Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) + Serve meals and assist with feeding as necessary. + Support ambulation, turning, and positioning of patients. + Provide fresh water and nourishment between meals. + Adjunct Care + Administer enemas, douches, nonsterile dressings, surgical preps, ice packs, heat treatments, sitz and therapeutic baths. + Apply restraints as directed. + Monitoring & Documentation + Check vital signs and weight; perform urine testing. + Record and document intake and output in appropriate forms and electronic medical records. + Perform capillary blood glucose monitoring. + Patient Comfort & Support + Transport patients and respond promptly to call lights and requests. + Report observations of patient condition to nursing supervisor. + Provide emotional support and comfort measures. + Compliance & Confidentiality + Complete all required documentation accurately and on time. + Follow hospital policies, procedures, and professional standards. + Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to federal, state, and local regulations, as well as The Joint Commission standards. + Special Assignments + Provide one-to-one observation, including virtual observation, as required. Geriatrics & Extended Care Specialty Responsibilities As part of the Geriatrics and Extended Care team, the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) will provide compassionate, patient-centered care to older adults and long-term care residents. This includes: + Personal Care & Daily Living Support + Assist residents with bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting to maintain dignity and comfort. + Support ambulation and mobility to prevent falls and promote independence. + Provide fresh water, nourishment, and assist with feeding as needed. + Comfort & Emotional Support + Offer companionship and emotional reassurance to residents and families. + Respond promptly to call lights and requests, ensuring residents feel safe and cared for. + Health Monitoring + Check and record vital signs, weight, and intake/output. + Perform capillary blood glucose monitoring as directed. + Report changes in condition or behavior to the nursing supervisor immediately. + Specialized Care + Assist with nonsterile dressings, therapeutic baths, and routine skin care. + Support residents with continence care, including catheter and colostomy assistance. + Provide comfort measures for residents nearing end-of-life, ensuring dignity and respect. + Safety & Compliance + Adhere to infection control protocols and maintain a clean, safe environment. + Follow all VA, federal, state, and local regulations, as well as The Joint Commission standards.
