Click here (to learn more Dermatology MOHS Senior Tech DERMATOLOGY (BILLINGS CLINIC CLINIC) req10620 Shift: Day Employment Status: Full-Time (.75 or greater) Hours per Pay Period: 1.00 = 80 hours every two weeks (Non-Exempt) Starting Wage DOE: $21.70 - $27.12 Under the clinical supervision of the Mohs Surgeon, the Senior MOHS Technician leads the team in the delivery of patient care/treatment, performing laboratory/histology duties, and assisting with surgical procedures. Works collaboratively within the Mohs Section and the Dermatology department to meet the physical, psychosocial, educational, and spiritual needs of the patient and family. Assists in the care of the surgical patient by performing the scrub role of handling instruments, equipment and supplies. The Senior Mohs Technician has advanced knowledge and understanding of the procedure being performed, anticipates the needs of the surgeon, maintains a sterile field and is responsible pre- and post-operatively for technical components of surgery. Essential Job Functions u2022 Assists with orientation and training of staff and/or students and residents as applicable. This may include assisting with competency assessment, updating training materials and identifying additional education needs. (Education, Staff, Orientation & Training) u2022 Establishes training program for Mohs Tech I and Mohs Tech II personnel and candidates to ensure that they meet expectations and requirements for promotion. u2022 Trains Mohs team on established procedures for preparation of surgical specimens. u2022 In coordination with Department Leadership schedules Mohs team work assignments. u2022 Evaluates the Mohs Techs mounts on slides and stains or treats tissue with chemicals so as to reveal specific structural details under microscopic analysis. u2022 Perform histology duties to prepare material for pathologic evaluation. u2022 Coaches and mentors Mohs Techs on team u2022 Cross-Training Leads the cross training of personnel assigned to the team. Ensures competencies of technicians. Helps to address patient concerns and complaints. u2022 Leadership In partnership with Surgeon, leads the assigned Mohs Team. Responsible for orientation of all new staff member to the lab and the floor. Assists with responding to questions and/or assisting with problem resolution. Develops Mohs in-service training plan. u2022 Process Improvement / Quality Assurance / Risk Management Validates Logs and Records Oversees CLIA QA program General Duties: u2022 Receives and prepares patient for examination and treatment as directed. Obtains and records history and vital signs. Charts and documents in medical record according to protocol. Collects laboratory specimens as needed. Assists physician in the care of patients/families by contributing information in order to aid in planning and evaluating patient care, with consideration for emotional, social and physical needs. (Patient Care, Assessment, Patient Examination Prep) u2022 Cleans and maintains exam and treatment rooms to include ordering and maintaining adequate inventory of clinical and office supplies, instruments, and equipment as needed, daily decontamination of work area and sterilizing of instruments, and appropriate disposal of residual surgical pathology specimens and lab chemicals. (Environment of Care, Maintenance, Room Supplies & Equipment Prep) u2022 Assists physicians and non-physician providers in preparing for procedures and physical exams. Demonstrates proper handling of instruments and equipment. Anticipates, plans for and responds to the needs of the surgeon and other members of the team by constantly watching the sterile field. (Patient Care, Procedures, Assist Providers - Derm) u2022 Observes patients for physical and emotional reactions to medications and treatments, reporting any irregularities to appropriate medical and/or other nursing personnel. Identifies potential complications and responds appropriately to identified needs. (Patient Care, Patient Observation for reactions) u2022 Performs minor procedures to include but not limited to stitch and staple removal, wound and ulcer care, application of dressings, and phototherapy adhering to policy and procedure; documentation is concise and thorough. (Patient Care, Procedures, Perform Minor Procedures) u2022 Reviews clerical information including the labeling of the specimen and requisition, reconciling any discrepancies detected in labeling. Prepare specimens for accessioning and gross evaluation. ((Patient Care, Procedures, Mohs Tissue Processing) u2022 Assigns accession numbers to cases as they arrive in the Mohs lab. u2022 Processes selected tissue as directed by the Mohs surgeon. u2022 Embeds, cuts, stains and coverslips slides efficiently. u2022 Catalogs and files all slides u2022 Prepares laboratory solutions and reagents according to established procedures and exact formula in order to maintain adequate quantities for daily work assignments. Change and filter stainer chemicals per protocols. (Environment of Care, Inventory, Laboratory Prep) u2022 Records and reviews quality control data and case logs. Utilizes performance improvement principles to assess and improve quality. (Quality/Regulatory, Quality Review, QC Data) u2022 Assists with scheduling admissions, appointments, diagnostic tests, treatments, procedures, and surgery. u2022 Screens incoming telephone calls for appropriate referrals to nurse, physician and/or non-physician provider. (Patient Services, Scheduling, Patient Scheduling) u2022 Provides instruction to patients as directed by physician, non-physician provider or documented in policies and procedures. (Education, Patient, Educates Patient, Provider) u2022 Maintains patient files, records and other information. Adheres to HIPAA and confidentiality requirements. (HIM, Patient Chart, Documents in Patient Record). u2022 Works with the Mohs Team to provide the highest quality of safe caret to patients. u2022 Supports and models behaviors consistent with Billings Clinicu2019s mission, vision, values, code of business conduct and service expectations. Meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency standards as it relates to the environment, employee, patient safety or job performance. u2022 Performs all other duties as assigned or as needed to meet the needs of the department/organization. Minimum Qualifications Education u2022 Minimum High School or GED u2022 Preferred 2 Year / Associate Degree Histology, Medical Laboratory or other Healthcare related degree. Experience u2022 2 -3 years successful comparable experience equivalent to a Mohs Technician II. u2022 Minimum of two years experience equivalent to a Level II Mohs Technician in Billings Clinic, preferred. u2022 Experience as a lead or team lead, preferred. Certifications and Licenses u2022 LPN or Certified Dermatology Technician or Medical Assistant at hire Or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered. Employees that require a licensed or certification must be properly licensed/certified and the licensure/certification must be in good standing.
