The Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine seeks an outstanding psychiatrist to join our Behavioral Health Urgent Care and Acute Psychiatric Services team. Rank (Assistant/Associate/Professor) and tenure status are commensurate with qualifications. The selected candidate will provide high-quality psychiatric care in settings focused on acute assessment, crisis stabilization, and diversion from inpatient admission. Clinical duties may include work within the Behavioral Health Urgent Care unit, other acute care environments, addiction services, general outpatient, and subspecialty clinics. The incumbent will teach and supervise residents and medical students, provide in-person care, and share in faculty call for nights/weekends as part of a rotation. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a clinician-educator with interests in acute care psychiatry, addiction treatment, and innovative models of behavioral health service delivery. Key Responsibilities Clinical Care u2022 Provide psychiatric evaluation, stabilization, and short-term treatment for patients presenting with acute behavioral health and substance use needs. u2022 Collaborate with interprofessional teams to ensure safe triage, continuity of care, and effective diversion from inpatient or emergency settings when appropriate. u2022 Deliver integrated, evidence-based, and recovery-oriented care across multiple UVA Health acute care sites. Education and Supervision u2022 Teach and supervise psychiatry residents, medical students, and other learners in urgent and acute care settings. u2022 Contribute to educational initiatives, including clinical teaching, case-based learning, and quality improvement projects.
