We seek employees who bring different and innovative ways of seeing the world and solving problems.The Paulovich Lab at Fred Hutch (is an interdisciplinary team whose mission is to develop and implement tools for protein quantification to enable precision medicine via patient selection and characterization of novel therapeutic targets.The lab has a major focus on mass spectrometry (MS)-based proteomics (both untargeted and targeted), as well as integrating proteomic data with genomic data. Our group is highly collaborative, participating in national and international consortia in which teams of scientists, statisticians, and clinicians work together to solve clinical or biological problems to impact human health.This is a terrific opportunity within the Paulovich lab for a highly motivated and upper level full-time Research Technician to join our translational proteomics team to help drive translational projects forward towards clinical applications by performing bench-level experiments in support of proteomic, genomic, and transcriptomic analyses of clinical and preclinical biospecimens. The ideal candidate will be able to work as part of a team as well as independently to follow established standard operating protocols (SOP) in a CLIA/CAP laboratory environment.Process proteomic samples for mass spectrometry analysis (e.g., protein extraction, fractionation, immuno-depletion, trypsin digestion, alkylation, reduction, etc.)Assist in generation and analysis of mass spectrometry-based proteomic dataFollow standard operating protocols (SOP) in a CLIA/CAP laboratory environment including participating in annual competency and proficiency testingWork with antibodies (antibody crosslinking/purification, immunoaffinity purification, immobilization on solid supports, ELISAs)Collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary team spanning expertise in medicine, biology, analytical chemistry, and statisticsDesign and present Powerpoint presentations of results to colleagues and collaboratorsMaintain laboratory equipment, records, research results files, and databasesWrite progress reports and develop standard operating protocols (SOPs)Write and co-author scientific manuscripts (in peer-reviewed journals)Perform other duties as requiredMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s degree in related scientific field or equivalent combination of education and experience8 years of related work experience (or equivalent combination of advanced degree and work experience)Proven ability and knowledge necessary to conduct research independentlyPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Master’s degree or higher in Protein Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Clinical Chemistry, Biochemistry , Molecular Biology or related discipline. Salary and title based on experience.Previous experience in a CLIA/CAP or other regulated environmentPrevious experience with Tandem Mass Tag (TMT) labeling, data-dependent acquisition (DDA) and data-independent acquisition (DIA) mass spectrometry techniquesPrevious experience with multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) and parallel reaction monitoring (PRM) targeted mass spectrometry techniquesPrevious experience isolating human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) for proteomics experiments- isolation from whole blood, expansion in culture, perturbation with chemical agents, protein extraction and quantification, etc.Previous experience with QC and processing of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) and flash-frozen specimen processing and protein extraction for proteomics experimentsPrevious experience in mass spectrometry data analysis tools (such as Proteome Discoverer, Fragpipe, Skyline, etc.)Previous experience with quantitative image analysis for pathology (such as Indicta Labs HALO software)Previous work with antibodies and peptide standards (immunoaffinity purification, immobilization on solid supports, preparation of samples for mass spectrometry)Previous experience with liquid handling robot usage and programming (Python, R)Ability to perform traditional biochemistry experiments on human and animal biospecimens and cell linesPrevious work maintaining and running mass spectrometry and HPLC instruments to generate proteomic dataStrong work ethic and ability to multi-task efficiently in a highly interactive, interdisciplinary team environmentComfort in a milestone-driven environment, with quarterly objectivesExquisite attention to detail and the ability to adhere to standard operating protocols (SOP) and maintain records in a CLIA-Cap environment.Proficiency with MS Office programs (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, and Access)Willingness to learn new techniquesExcellent English writing and oral communication skills.A strong publication recordThe annual base salary range for this position is from $80,475 to $120,681, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.This position may be eligible for relocation assistance.This position is not eligible for H-1B sponsorship at this time.Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center offers employees a comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance health, well-being, and financial security.
