The Water System Maintenance Craftsperson performs skilled manual workin the construction, operation and maintenance of water systemsincluding work on reservoirs, water gates, drains, mains and connectors;lays and connects service pipes with street mains and meters; locatesand repairs water leaks; installs fire hydrants; operates water gates;turns on water for new service; inspects work of laborers andmaintenance workers to see that it conforms with the specifications andblueprints; installs water meters; operates related motor equipment,shuts down mains in the street; assists with snow removal i.e. plowingshoveling; and other related duties as assigned. Reasonableaccommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities toperform essential functions. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Two years ofexperience in water works construction or underground utilityconstruction or an equivalent combination of both. A valid Grade 1Distribution (D1) Full Operator certificate or Operator-in-Trainingcertificate may be substituted for the required experience. Workingknowledge of materials, methods and techniques related to theinstallation and maintenance of water mains or underground utilities. Avalid Class D driver?s license is required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Heavy workinvolving operating 90 lb. jackhammer, shoveling, lifting, climbing inand out of excavations.
