Join Our Team, Patient Care Technician with Sleep Lab Career Path Are you a Patient Care Technician looking to expand your skills and explore a specialized area of healthcare? This opportunity allows you to train in our Sleep Lab , gaining hands-on experience that can lead to a future role as a Sleep Technologist . You'll work under the direct supervision of the lead sleep technologist, collaborating closely with department administration and medical management. Through on-the-job training (OJT) , you'll learn both core patient care responsibilities and advanced sleep study procedures. What You'll Do and Learn + Patient Care Skills: Vital signs monitoring, patient safety, infection control. + Sleep Lab Techniques: Electrode and sensor setup per AASM guidelines, CPAP/Oxygen titration, polysomnography testing. + Data Collection & Analysis: Conduct and score sleep studies, maintain competency with AASM ISR requirements. + Equipment Maintenance: Clean and maintain devices, manage inventory. + Patient Education: Explain procedures and promote sleep health awareness. Ideal Candidate + Currently working as a PCT or interested in patient care. + Passionate about healthcare and eager to specialize in sleep medicine. + Comfortable working night shifts and weekends. Apply today and take the first step toward becoming a Sleep Technologist Responsibilities: + Preparation: Review patient charts, testing orders, and ensure proper identification. + Setup: Apply electrodes and sensors per AASM guidelines, explaining procedures to patients. + Procedure Execution: Conduct in-center and out-of-center sleep studies, focusing on quality and patient care. + Analysis: Analyze and score sleep studies. + Maintenance: Clean equipment and rooms, perform routine maintenance, and manage inventory of lab supplies. + Competency: Maintain scoring competency by completing monthly AASM ISR requirements. + Compliance: Adhere to department policies and perform other assigned duties. + HS graduate required. + Graduate from an education program in polysomnography accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) required. + Sleep credential from the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (RPSGT), the National Board of Respiratory Care (CRT-SDS or RRT-SDS) or the American Board of Sleep Medicine (RST).Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:BLS required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician (CRTT) OR Registered Polysomnographic Technologist OR Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) preferred. + Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) + Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician (CRTT) OR Registered Polysomnographic Technologist OR Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran
