Join us as we provide Life Changing Medicine to our community Position: Full-Time Histotechnician/Histotechnologist Department: Histology Lab Location: UPMC Passavant Shifts: Monday to Friday 1st Shift (no weekends or holidays required) Histotechnician starting rate: $19.67/hr Senior Histotechnician starting rate: $22.33/hr Histotechnologist starting rate: $22.17/hr Senior Histotechnologist starting rate: $24.65/hr _Title and salary are based on education and experience._ _Senior experience levels available for both titles_ Sign-On Bonus of $12,000 - $15,000 with a 2-year commitment based on level of experience Responsibilities: + Demonstrate complete knowledge of CoPath related to Histology workflow. + Process and prepare various types of tissue samples using a variety of techniques in a clinical laboratory. + Comply with all UPMC and departmental policies, procedures and work practices. + Demonstrates progression of skills towards working independently in an advanced staining area. + Perform ancillary or miscellaneous tasks such as filing, cleaning, stocking supplies. + Perform QC checks at each phase of processing/ staining + Process and prepare surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining and coverslipping. Embed and cut specialized tissue based on location including minute biopsy protocols. + Supports academic mission of department. + Ensures all tissues are embedded and cut according to department specific protocols with proper orientation and complete sections including no folds, chatter, artifacts or floaters. + Accurately prepares slides for microtomy using the barcode label in order to maintain correct patient identification throughout the process. + Maintain instruments following quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols. Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. Performs other duties as assigned. Histotechnician Requirements: u00b7 High school diploma u00b7 Successful completion of a NAACLS-accredited Histotechnician (HT) program within the last 5 years u00b7 OR an Associateu2019s degree or at least 60 semester hours from a regionally accredited college/university, including a combination of 12 semester hours in biology and chemistry u00b7 1 year of clinical laboratory experience post-training preferred u00b7 Licensure: u00b7 HT (ASCP) required within 18 months of hire u00b7 Act 34 with renewal Histotechnologist Requirements: u00b7 Bacheloru2019s degree (B.S.) from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours (or 45 quarter hours) in biology and chemistry u00b7 Successful completion of a NAACLS-accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnology program within the last 5 years u00b7 OR 1 year of full-time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory within the last 10 years u00b7 Lab must be located in the U.S., Canada, or a CAP/The Joint Commission (JCAHO)/AABB-accredited facility u00b7 Experience must be under the supervision of a board-certified pathologist (Anatomic Pathology) or a board-certified medical scientist u00b7 1 year of full-time experience in a histology laboratory preferred u00b7 Licensure: u00b7 HTL (ASCP) required within 1 year of hire u00b7 Act 34 with renewal _UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer._
