Place of Employment Information: St. Maries.Additional Place of Employment Information: Multiple worksites inBenewah, Clearwater and Weippe Counties Idaho and Whitman, Adams andGrant Counties Washington will be used. Worksite location variesdepending upon season, weather and grazing rotation. Please contact theemployer at the headquarters address listed above for specificdirections to the current worksite.JOB DUTIES: Must have 3 months experience with 800 - 1000 headflocks. One reference required. The employee must be able to identifyapproaching storm periods and make precautions to prevent the herd fromdrifting against a fence line where they pile up and get drifted overwith snow and freeze to death. The herder must be experienced inhandling extreme winter conditions on a range to prevent death inlivestock, horses, and dogs. Due to animals exerting more energy duringthe winter months especially in extreme winter weather, the herder willneed to monitor the nutritional needs of an animal throughout winter.Ensure that animals have access to unfrozen water and to distributesupplemental feed. May assist in calving, tagging, branding, castratingand vaccinations of calves. Monitor snow levels to prevent livestockfrom being paralyzed in deep snow or caught up against a fence. Herdersneed to have experience in identifying animals who are not gettingenough nutrition, keeping a fresh supply of water in freezingtemperatures, and how to maintain animals in extreme weather conditions.May perform general repairs on fences. Some work/tasks may occur off therange, but more than 51% of work will be performed on the range. WesternRange Association and its member ranches facilitate practices of goodanimal husbandry. Employees that are found abusing, neglecting orabandoning livestock entrusted to their care may be terminated forcause. If the negligent/abusive actions of an employee result in theloss/death oflivestock/animals or cause harm to another person, the employee may beheld accountable for these actions. The worker will live in the employerprovided range housing. Said housing will be clean and in good repair atthe time it is provided to the employee. The employee is responsible tomaintain the housing unit in a reasonable level of cleanliness in orderto avoid flies, mice or other vermin. The employee is responsible toalert the employer of damage to the housing unit within a reasonableamount of time. The employee may be held accountable for damage to thehousing unit that is the result of negligence on the part of theemployee (normal wear and tear excepted). Hours worked footnote:On call for up to 24 hours 7 days a weekELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONCell phones, along with sufficient minutes are provided forcommunication, without charge or deposit, to each worker during theentire period of employment. in the rare instance where the worker(s) islocated in an area without cell phone service, the worker will becontacted, in person by either the employer or another employee of UnionCattle Company, on a preset schedule (every 3rd or 4th day) if not moreregularly. Camps are moved by the employer or another employee of UnionCattle Company.EMPLOYER PROVIDED ITEMSDogs, binoculars, four-wheeler, shovel, sleeping bag, rain gear,insulated coveralls, winter boots, stocking hat and gloves.
