Job Description

Overview:Exercises independent judgment in evaluation, selection and use of standard techniques, and solves problems when encountered. A licensed Architect who possesses and applies a diversified knowledge of architectural principles, practices and procedures to complete assignments with originality and ingenuity. Anticipates job expectations and contributes to project and design solutions.Responsibilities:Develops advanced workflows in collaboration with respective team for the control of 3D geometry, techniques for design modeling, techniques for digital fabrication and techniques for simulation and analysisPrepares or modifies complex drawings to incorporate the design intent with or without minimal supervision using diverse knowledge of architectural principles, practices and advanced techniquesProduces and may review graphic presentations, 3D renderings and implementation documentsMay lead team in planning work and developing solutions to technical and design detail problems with limited guidanceCompiles data and performs design computations in collaboration with project teamResolves complex design issues with innovative and practical solutionsWorks with senior designer(s) and project team(s) on conceptual designs, presentations, design development and production to deliver projects on time and within budgetPrepares presentation/design drawings and may build models for client/project team reviewCollaborates in preparing project schedules and coordinates with team in order to effectively meet deadlinesExecutes deliverables according to scope of services and HKS standards, best practice and quality expectationsAssists with technical resolution and coordination for a defined portion of a projectValidates that code and zoning requirements for assigned segment of project are metMay coordinate with consultants, contractors and regulatory agencies to meet overall project objectivesPrepares client presentations and presents project design intentUnderstands and supports negotiations on critical issues with project teamPerforms product research; assists project designers with materials and systems evaluation to make proper selectionsAssists in the research of material requirements and costs for projectsParticipates in team meetings to discuss project issues, technical issues and coordination with other disciplinesUnderstands industry standard construction techniques, building regulations and engineering principles to apply to project plansMay attend on-site visits, field reviews and project meetings and documents as appropriateMay be responsible for preparing meeting minutes for consultant coordination meetingsSupports the firm’s cultural values, including a commitment to quality, innovation, learning and growthActs as a mentor by coaching and motivating project team membersSeeks leadership opportunities by providing direction and feedback to team members and collaborating with team leadersFosters and maintains a collaborative professional working relationship with the project teamPromotes the firm’s principles of ‘design excellence’ through the integration of responsible and sustainable design practice with the art of designUnderstands fundamental accounting principles and the project accounting processCollaborates in delivering a project on defined budget requirementsResponsible for the financial implications of overhead and chargeable time, including accountability to project plan and planned utilization rateDevelops and tests new toolsets for modeling technique, software platform interoperability, participates in software applications development, and develops and tests workflows and methodologies for environmental simulation/analysisMay assist in developing and maintaining excellent relationships with existing and potential clients through project workSupports the business development process by identifying new opportunities, marketing current clients for repeat business and assisting with proposals, budgets and schedulesUnderstands contract and recognizes additional services may be needed in collaboration with project teamQualifications:Accredited professional degree in ArchitectureArchitectural Registration required (Cédula Profesional)Typically 5+ years of experience in equivalent quality design firmsSustainable design accreditation preferredIntermediate to advanced knowledge in 3D modeling in a variety of software platforms such as Revit, Rhino, and Grasshopper requiredExperience with Ladybug/Honeybee for Rhino Grasshopper preferredExperience with Adobe Suite requiredExperience with advanced daylight and solar design simulations requiredProficiency in MS Office Suite preferredUnderstanding of the processes of design, fabrication and construction of complex projects and their impact on the built environmentKnowledge of sustainability and integrated design guidelinesStrong knowledge of computational design methodologies such as development of physical computing hardware and software, advanced environmental simulation workflows and generative design solutionsStrong knowledge of architectural building systems and QA/QC processStrong knowledge of building codes and ability to research and apply/incorporate into technical documentsStrong organizational skills and the ability to support leadershipAbility to work iteratively across a variety of project typologies and among multiple BIM platformsAbility to conduct design studies with minimal supervisionAbility to maintain existing client relationships and build new client relationshipsAbility to communicate and present ideas in a clear, concise and professional manner both verbally and in writingAbility to problem solve and apply innovative solutionsAbility to work and collaborate in a team environmentAbility to work on multiple projects at the same timeAbility to effectively meet deadlines at expected qualityTravel may be required.
