Job Description

Seagle Festival is seeking a Technical Director for the 2026 summer season. The season includes 4 main stage productions (two operas, two musicians) in a small, 175-seat house with a 26’ proscenium. Additional productions include a small touring children’s opera and several concerts and events. Seagle Festival follows EOE guidelines. This is a Non-union position. Location Schroon Lake, New York - Adirondack Mountain Region June 2 through August 27 Facilities 33 Acre Campus 175 seat Theatre 26’ wide proscenium 26’ deep‑Hemp house no fly loft - permanent double ring turntable 20” center with 3’ doughnut manual crank. Full set of draperies and lighting equipment all new over the last 20 years. Complete Scene Shop with table saw, drill press, steel saw, radial arm saw, band saw, excellent stock of hand tools mostly Makita. Compensation $800 per week plus housing—private room shared bath. All meals on workdays. This is a 6‑day a week job with one full day off each week. Duties Create working drawings for construction from the Scenic Designers’ drawings. Supervision of 4‑person shop staff. This includes a scenic artist, props person and two carpenters—Coordinate with a 2‑person Electrics staff, 3‑person costume staff, 2‑person wig and makeup staff and 3‑person stage management staff. Supervise 4 full company strikes/load‑ins. Work collaboratively with the Scenic Designer(s) and Directors to complete all work in a timely manner. Order necessary materials and supplies in a timely manner. Track deliveries and purchases and submit all necessary paperwork to the General Director. Work to ensure shows are completed within deadlines and budgets. Create all shop scheduling including company load‑ins and strikes. Supervising running crews in cooperation with the stage management staff. Work with the Lighting Designer and Master Electrician to schedule lighting focus and cueing. Ensure proper maintenance and usage of all shop equipment and tools. Coordinate with the costume department as needed. Attend and participate in production meetings during the season. Attend online meetings with senior staff and designers before the season. Qualifications 3‑5 years of shop experience, at least 2 in a leadership role—Advanced scenic construction skills. Basic welding. Basic rigging—Knowledge of AutoCad and/or Vectorworks. Effective problem solving and time management skills with the ability to give and follow instructions. Work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to follow and implement health and safety standards. Valid driver’s license. Desired Start Date June 2, 2026 BENEFITS Plus housing for the contracted period, meals on all working days, $400 travel stipend payable upon arrival. Mileage reimbursement for any work travel done in a personal vehicle.
