The Supervisor Coaching Community Trainer is a University employee positioned at the MNCWTA. The Supervisor Coaching Community Trainer is a critical member of the training & delivery community training team and will be training child welfare supervisors, using the developed State coaching curriculum. This new training curriculum has been designed to support supervisors in cultivating that coaching mentality, enabling them to consistently apply coaching principles throughout their daily work, aligned with Kadushin's supervisory framework. The Supervisor Coaching curriculum is designed as a virtual, instructor-led training, currently structured in 5, 4-hour segments with 4-5 cohorts anticipated per year. This non-benefits eligible position will work a variety of hours (depending on the scheduling and trainer availability) over the course of the year and will fill out timesheets for the hours worked. Typically, training schedules are set six months in advance. This role is temporary/casual and may be renewed for up to two years. Applicants must reside in the state of Minnesota. While this position conducts trainings virtually, successful applicants may need to travel to the Metro and other MNCWTA Learning Centers. Job Responsibilities Classroom Training (75%) Design and facilitate interactive training sessions that emphasize coaching strategies for child welfare supervisors Foster an inclusive learning environment that promotes professional growth, reflective practice, and skill development Integrate adult learning principles to support critical thinking, peer-to-peer learning, and real-world application of concepts. Classroom Preparation (20%) Prepare curriculum materials in advance of scheduled training sessions, ensuring content is organized, relevant, and ready for delivery Review learner prerequisites and assigned coursework to tailor instruction and support participant readiness Set up the physical and digital learning environment-including seating arrangements, technology configuration (e.g., computer, projector), and accessible instructional materials Coordinate with program staff to confirm logistics, troubleshoot equipment, and ensure a welcoming, well-equipped space for learning Training of Trainers/Feedback & Coaching (5%) Partner with the MNCWTA training team during Training of Trainers (TOT) sessions to promote consistent, high-quality curriculum delivery. Participate in structured coaching and feedback processes to strengthen facilitation techniques and deepen training impact. Apply coaching insights and recommendations to future sessions, supporting continuous improvement and alignment with program goals. Reflect regularly on facilitation practices and learner engagement strategies to uphold a high standard of instructional excellence. Qualifications Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree, a minimum of three years of experience facilitating training or instruction, and a minimum of 2 years coaching experience and/or implementing coaching models Demonstrate a strong commitment to creating inclusive, equitable learning environments that affirm diverse identities and incorporate culturally responsive child welfare practices. Ability to engage learners across a variety of styles, ensuring accessible and impactful training familiarity Receptive to feedback and coaching, with a track record of integrating guidance to continuously enhance performance Excellent communication skills, with an emphasis on clarity, responsiveness, and adaptability Strong collaboration skills, including the ability to work effectively across interdisciplinary teams and with external partners Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Google Workspace (e.g., Docs, Sheets, Slides), and competence with current instructional technology (e.g., projectors, video conferencing platforms, learning management systems) Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) or a closely related field Minimum of three years of direct professional experience in child welfare and a minimum of three years delivering training in classroom or instructional settings Minimum of two years of supervisor experience in child welfare or related field Demonstrated proficiency in facilitating classroom-based training using adult education principles In-depth understanding of Minnesota's child welfare system and family services, including policies, practices, and statewide initiatives About the Department Institute Overview The Multidisciplinary Institute for Child Welfare (MICW) is a new organizing structure housing several dynamic research and training entities, including The Center for Advanced Studies in Child Welfare (CASCW), the Minnesota Linking Information for Kids (Minn-LInK) project, and the Minnesota Child Welfare Training Academy (MNCWTA). Each entity is grant-funded and self-sustaining. During an early phase of strategic planning for CASCW in 2024, the creation of the MICW emerged as an essential task to continue to support the growth and productivity of these entities while also continuing the mission of the School of Social Work and the College of Education and Human Development as it pertains to continued community service, growth, and innovation. The Center for Advanced Studies in Child Welfare (CASCW) is a research and training center located within the School of Social Work in the College of Education and Human Development on the St. Paul campus of the University of Minnesota. CASCW supports the education and training of public child welfare professionals; identifies and examines effective child welfare practice methods, informs the public and policy makers about various child welfare issues, and incorporates research and evaluation findings into the School of Social Work curriculum.
