Functions: This is a semi-skilled employee who is directly involved in routine tasks associated with cleaning and maintaining buildings and grounds. The work involves cleaning, use of soaps, chemicals, waxes, and the use of various machines and equipment associated with custodian work. Minor maintenance and repair to the equipment, machines and building is expected. Work is reviewed through routine inspection and evaluation of the appearance and cleanliness of assigned work areas. Custodial work can be assigned to group or individual activity.Reports To: This person is directly responsible to the Head Custodian or Plant EngineerPerformance Responsibilities:1. To clean floors, windows, fixtures, stairs, restrooms and doors with brooms, mops, brushes, and cloths; must be able to reach high spaces by positioning and using step stool or ladder2. Prepares floors for waxing by first using stripper and water solution, removing old wax from floors using side-by-side machine and/or scrapes corners, edges, and doorways to remove dirt/wax, and then applying new wax. Buffs waxed floors by using power buffers.3. To operate various machines such as buffers, vacuum cleaners (various kinds including back-pack vacuums), carpet machines, lawn mower, etc.4. To move various things such as trash containers, furniture, equipment, books, lunchroom tables, materials, and various supplies; must empty large rolling trash cans when full by rolling to outside container and disposing of accumulated trash.5. To do routine maintenance such as replacing light bulbs, fuses, starters, pencil sharpeners, etc.6. To maintain mechanical equipment and heating and cooling equipment by starting, stopping, and adjusting the controls switch7. To maintain adequate inventory of supplies for assigned work area8. To perform general manual labor incidental to school/location operation9. To maintain school grounds by removing debris, trimming shrubs, cutting grass and related tasks10. To open and/or close and secure the building(s) and raise and/or lower the flags11. To be available for duty in the event the district has made the building available for use by the public12. To perform related work as required and other duties as assigned by supervisor13. Follow safety rules and procedures, including wearing required personal protective equipment14. Must successfully meet WorkKeys/WIN requirement at the Bronze Level and provide scores to Human Resources at Operations. Test not required if applicants has Associates/Bachelors degree or military experience; provide documentation15. Must be able to lift and move 35-50 pounds routinely.16. Starting pay is $11.25 per hours. Maximum pay is $13.71 per hour17. 18 sick days per year, if 12 month full-time position. 12 month employees also receive vacation and holiday pay.18. Full-time (30 hours or more per week) employees eligible for Health and Dental Benefits.19. State Retirement Plan20. Year-round employmentTerms of Employment: The Head Custodian or Plant Engineer will establish the terms of employment by setting hoursand days to be worked. This position is hourly paid in Salary Group H, Support/Hourly Salary Schedule D.
