The City of Toledo is seeking responsible and safety-oriented individuals to serve as Lifeguards for the 2026 summer season. Lifeguards ensure the safety of swimmers, enforce pool rules, maintain a clean environment, and respond to emergencies. The City provides free Lifeguard Certification Training for all new hires.------------------------------------------------------------------------ Job Duties- Monitor swimmers and pool surroundings to prevent accidents- Rescue individuals in distress or at risk of drowning- Administer CPR and first aid as needed- Maintain cleanliness of pool deck, equipment, and surrounding areas- Enforce safety rules and address inappropriate or unsafe behavior- Assist with swim lessons when assigned- Support cashier duties as needed------------------------------------------------------------------------ Work Schedule- Pools open to the public 12:00 p.m. -- 6:00 p.m.- Staff typically work 11:30 a.m. -- 6:00 p.m. (Managers begin at 11:00 a.m.)- Approximately 36 hours per week- Pools operate 6 days a week - Willys & Roosevelt: Closed Mondays - Jamie Farr, Wilson, Pickford, Savage, Navarre: Closed Tuesdays- Hours vary slightly during July swim lesson weeks------------------------------------------------------------------------ Certification Requirements (Paid for by City of Toledo)All Lifeguards must complete a Lifeguard Certification Course. Requirements include:- Tread water for 2 minutes- Swim 300 yards continuously- Retrieve a 10 lb. brick from 6--10 ft. depth- Complete online and in-person training sessionsCandidates should bring a towel, swimsuit, and snack to each training class. Certifications are valid for 2 years.
