Position Overview The Environmental Health & Safety Coordinator reports to the Safety Manager. This position works cooperatively with all departments and employees to promote a safe and secure working environment for Quaker employees and guests. The position will investigate incidents, review, evaluate, analyze and audit work environments and behaviors. The position will also develop programs and procedures to control, eliminate and prevent occupational disease or injury caused by chemical, environmental, physical and biological agents or ergonomic factors. Duties and Responsibilities Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including company policy and procedure Develop and implement safety initiatives to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries and violations of federal and state safety regulations, and present training and guidance throughout the facility Serve as lead investigator for environmental or compliance incidents; conduct professional investigations, determine root cause of incidents, identify corrective actions in professional written reports and maintain incident record keeping Anticipate, identify, and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices, then implement and administer hazard control methods, understand, and apply safety policies and procedures, and promote facility security measures and protocols Prevent occupational disease or injury through identification of proper personal protective equipment Conduct safety audits and inspections throughout manufacturing facility and prepare thorough written reports Conduct environmental and compliance inspections and complete proper documentation Evaluate work processes to identify personal protective equipment needs; purchase, stock, and/or distribute personal protective equipment as needed Conduct personal protective equipment compliance audits throughout manufacturing facility and provide real-time corrective instruction to prevent work-related injuries Conduct statistical analysis of injury trends and industry safety data (both historical analyses and future projections), and interpret and present statistical data to appropriate parties Engage with all employees to promote safe work behaviors Work with environmental consultants when necessary for effective environmental management Serve as a liaison with local, county, district, and state regulatory authorities regarding matters relating to Quaker environmental hazards and/or regulatory compliance matters (including, but not limited to Dept. of Natural Resources, Environmental Protection Agency, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA); coordinate with In-House Council when responding to compliance matters Support medical team by assisting with occupational injury investigations Lead, train, and provide leadership to the safety committee, host monthly committee meetings, coordinate activities, and empower committee members to develop and obtain specific safety goals and objectives Conduct Job Hazard Analyses designed to standardize processes and assist in the development of Standard Operating Procedures or One Point Lessons to promote education and communication Complete and maintain OSHA required documentation, reports, and postings Participate in OSHA site inspections and serve as primary point of contact for OSHA communications Coordinate and manage annual audiograms, industrial hygiene surveys, respirator fit testing, Hazardous Materials Management response training, and all other safety compliance requirements Coordinate and manage permits, testing, inspection and compliance for all air and water compliance requirements including emissions tracking, propane take inspections, unleaded/leaded gas holding tank inspections, outfall sampling, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System and Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plan Serve as primary point of contact and oversee all Dept. of Natural Resources, Environmental Protection Agency, and other governmental compliance matters (local, state, or federal) Manage Safety Data Sheets program, maintain Safety Data Sheets systems and/or manuals and coordinate with Purchasing to assure regulatory compliance; Actively participate in and provide leadership and training to the Safety Committee Recognize and adapt to change and evolving manufacturing environment Prompt and regular attendance at an assigned work location. Interact and communicate with employees and customers in an appropriate manner. Availability on site to confer with staff members with whom the employee must interact on a regular basis. Communicate via email and prepare reports. Review and analyze data and information concerning regulatory requirements. Plan, prioritize and monitor safety initiatives. Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner. Supervisory Responsibility No direct management or supervisory responsibilities. Safety Observe safety and security policies and procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment; report potentially unsafe conditions; and use equipment and materials properly. Travel Approximately 15% travel is required between Quaker campuses to coordinate activities and participate in safety committee activities. Qualifications An individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Proficient with Microsoft Office software: Excel, Word, Outlook and social media platforms OSHA 10-Hour Course Completion required, OSHA-30 Hour Course Completion preferred Ability to operate fork trucks, pallet jacks, and common hand and power tools according to safety and OSHA standards Proficient with interpreting and converting observations into formal recommendations Preferred Education and Experience The expectation is that the individual has achieved a minimum level of education and/or related expertise to qualify for this position. Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Compliance, or a related field 2 Years Experience Implementing Safety Initiatives and Managing Environmental Compliance in a Manufacturing Environment Competencies and Skills Initiative Independent Judgment Excellent Written and Verbal Communication Skills Discretion and Confidentiality Multitasking Collaboration and Team Building Personal Effectiveness / Credibility Adaptability Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday during normal business hours. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to climactic variations, fumes or airborne particles, various levels of vibration, and moving mechanical parts. Various different types of Personal Protective Equipment might be required based on the employee's work location. The noise level in the work area is usually low, but hearing protection may be advisable or required for prolonged visits to certain parts of the factory.
