Job Description The Dispatcher position is skilled in emergency service work that involves receiving emergency and non-emergency requests for police assistance, determining nature/urgency of calls, initiating police or other emergency personnel action and maintaining close contact with field units to monitor response and needed support requirements.It requires a considerable degree of initiative and independent judgement within procedural boundaries in responding to emotional, disturbed and sometimes abusive people in a variety of situations. Work may be done separately or in conjunction with other dispatchers and dispatchers may assist in training, teaching and basic operational equipment management. Job Duties Serve as Dispatcher in the Campus Police Office, receive and respond to emergency and non-emergency calls, and non-emergency calls from the public, dispatchers, and law enforcement agencies via telephone and radio systems and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems, and walk-in traffic to the appropriate personnel or department in an effective and efficient manner when needed; Process and evaluate information received, prioritize calls and dispatches required units and/or agencies; Monitor and coordinate police unit activity and assignments via police radio frequencies; Maintain status and locations of public safety personnel; Utilize technology such as computers, radio systems, telephones, fax machines and other communication equipment; Manage the input of citations and traffic tickets into the CAD system in a timely and accurate manner; Create and maintain automated or manual logs of public safety communications activity; Access and enter sensitive data in local/state/national databases as necessary for investigative purposes; Maintain appropriate security and confidentiality of information created or encountered in the performance of assigned duties; Keep informed of Official regulations, policies and procedures; Monitor campus security cameras for suspicious activity and direct Campus Police to the location; Supervise and or direct a student worker(s) assigned to the Campus Police Office; Operate the emergency siren/PA system, and ReGroup mass notification system as needed; Operate the College ID card system and reissue cards as needed; Perform other duties that may be assigned by Communications Officer in Charge or assigned by the Chief of Campus Police and Dean of Business Services. Mandatory Qualifications M(1) Holds a current State Certification as a Telecommunicatons Operator (BETST) or Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO), International Academies of Emergency Dispatch (IAED), Telecommunicator CPR Dispatch (T-CPR), 1 year of switchboard equipment or equivalent. M(2) Experience answering and transferring calls using a multiline phone system. M(3) Proficiency using Microsoft Office, internet and Outlook.M(4) Effective written and verbal communication skills. M(5) Superior customer service skills.M(6) Be at least 18 years of age.M(7) Have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED). Desirable Qualifications D(1) Prior knowledge and experience as a law enforcement/emergency response Dispatcher.D(2) Skills in multi-tasking, coordinating simultaneous mental, manual and visual activities.D(3) Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Campus Police personnel, outside law enforcement agencies and the public.D(4) Position requires the satisfactory completion of a personal background investigation by law enforcement.
