Location: Albany, NY Category: Research Foundation Careers Posted On: Tue Dec 16 2025 Job Description: The Department of Health Policy, Management, and Behavior at the University at Albany College of Integrated Health Sciences has an exciting opportunity for a part-time Peer Navigator who will primarily work on research studies focused on HIV/STI prevention and treatment in marginalized communities especially among Black women in New York. The anticipated start date for this position is January 1, 2026. The Peer Navigator will play a key role in a community-based HIV prevention study focused on engaging Black women in HIV education, prevention, and uptake of preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and condom use. Drawing on lived experience and community ties, the Peer Navigator will assist with participant recruitment, community mobilization, and intervention delivery. This role requires strong interpersonal and motivational interviewing skills, cultural humility, commitment to promoting health equity, and experience working in HIV prevention. Description of Duties: Build and maintain trusting relationships with study participants. Deliver components of the HIV prevention intervention, including educational sessions, navigation services, or social support activities. Engage with community-based organizations, health care facilities, and events to promote the study and raise awareness about HIV prevention. Provide peer support, encouragement, and linkage to PrEP and other prevention resources as needed. Monitor participant progress and provide follow-up support. Documentation & Recordkeeping. Maintain accurate and confidential participant records and logs. Adhere to ethical research practices and confidentiality standards. Participate in regular team meetings, supervision, and training sessions. Support ongoing research efforts. Job Requirements: Minimum Requirements: + Bachelor's Degree in public health, communications or related fields. + 1 year experience in community outreach and engagement. + 1 year experience working on research studies including participant recruitment and data collection (conduct study visits). + Strong interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills. + Experience working with diverse, underserved, or priority populations. + Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines. + Experience in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and other Microsoft products. Preferred Requirements: + Master's degree in public health or related field. + 2-3-year experience in community outreach and engagement. + 2-3-year experience working on research studies including participant recruitment and data collection (conduct study visits). + 2-3 years' experience working with diverse, underserved, or priority populations. + 1 year experience with health promotion, HIV prevention/treatment initiatives preferred. + Familiarity with health promotion, HIV prevention/treatment initiatives preferred.
