JOB REQUIREMENTS: Adjunct Faculty, Biomedical Sciences Posting Number:201104617 Employment Status: Part Time Job Family: Faculty PositionOverview This position will teach courses and create high qualitystudent experiential learning opportunities that arise from newcommunity engagement programs. These efforts will advance the Departmentof Biomedical Sciences' strategic objective to become the primary hubin southeastern Wisconsin for biomedical science workforce development,education, and community service. The position will also develop avenuesfor the department and its students to respond effectively to the needsof local organizations, policymakers, and residents. It will support theacademic mission by contributing to courses such as BISC 4170 (Biology,Moral Behavior, and Policy) and BISC 4461 (Comparative Health Politics),which will integrate biomedical science with health policy and communityhealth. The role will coordinate outreach activities that will buildtrust-based partnerships through listening sessions, collaborativeprojects, and public events. Student participation will be central tothese initiatives, providing experiential learning that is vital forcareer discernment and for strengthening applications to pre healthprofessional programs. Students will be able to pursue theseopportunities for academic credit through BISC 4988 (Internship inBiomedical Sciences) or BISC 4997H (Capstone Project for the BiomedicalSciences Disciplinary Honors Program). Duties and ResponsibilitiesDevelop and deliver undergraduate and graduate courses that integratebiomedical science with health policy and community health. Create andoversee student experiential learning opportunities that emerge fromcommunity engagement initiatives, ensuring these activities supportcareer discernment and preparation for pre-health professional programs.Establish and maintain partnerships with Wisconsin organizations,policymakers, philanthropic entities, and campus groups to identifycommunity needs and opportunities for collaborative biomedical scienceprograms. Conduct listening sessions and stakeholder meetings to gatherinsights on community priorities and determine how departmentalexpertise can inform and support community health challenges. Coordinateoutreach events and activities, including meet-and-greet sessions,workshops, roundtables, and presentations that connect communitypartners with Biomedical Sciences faculty and students. Prepare summaryreports and recommendations, including an annual or semester-basedsynthesis of community needs, partnership opportunities, and suggestedprogrammatic next steps. Support credit-bearing student engagement,including supervision of students enrolled in BISC 4988 (Internship inBiomedical Sciences) and BISC 4997H (Capstone Project for the BiomedicalSciences Disciplinary Honors Program). Represent the department incommunity-facing and interdisciplinary university initiatives thatadvance its strategic goal of becoming the regional hub for biomedicalsciences in southeastern Wisconsin. OTHER EXPERIENCE ANDQUALIFICATIONS: Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Masters Degreepreferred or substantial progress toward the terminal degree. PreferredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities Advanced training or graduate-levelcoursework in biomedical sciences, public health, health policy, or aclosely related field. Commitment to equity-focused andcommunity-informed approaches, with sensitivity to the lived experiencesand priorities of diverse populations. Experience working in rolesinvolving student mentorship, curriculum development, or programcoordination. Demonstrated success in building long-term communitypartnerships, especially those involving collaborative research,outreach, or health-related programming. Experience supervising oradvising undergraduate students engaged in internships, capstoneprojects, or community-based learning. Familiarity with the Milwaukeemetropolitan region, including its public health landscape, communityorganizations, and policy environment. Prior involvement in grantwriting, fundraising, or engagement with philanthropic organizations tosupport community-oriented research or educational initiatives.Experience facilitating public events, workshops, or stakeholdermeetings, with the ability to communicate complex scientific or policyconcepts to non-specialist audiences. Background in interdisciplinarycollaboration, particularly across science, policy, and communityengagement domains. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity,inclusion, and community empowerment, especially in health-relatedcontexts. Ability to evaluate program effectiveness and use data orcommunity feedback to refine outreach initiatives and student learningexperiences.
