Traffic Project Engineer - Operations, Safety & Policy

Reference #: 4658RK&K is seeking an experienced Traffic Engineer with 6+ years of expertise in work zone traffic control and policy development. This role supports high-impact projects through open-end contracts with state and local agencies, focusing on advancing work zone safety and compliance. Collaborate with a talented, multidisciplinary team using state-of-the-art tools to deliver meaningful results.Essential FunctionYou will perform traffic engineering research to identify and analyze work zone traffic control methodologies, principals, products, and applicationsCreate work zone policies, guidelines, and engineering standards to improve work zone design, implementation, and operations to enhance safety and efficiencyCollaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to evaluate the effectiveness of existing work zone standards and traffic control plans to identify areas for improvementReview and develop maintenance of traffic plans for major projects that includes consideration for workers, vehicles, and vulnerable road usersPlanning, design, and implementation of ITS work zone applications to implement technology to provide better traveler information to motorists concerning work zonesAssist with Speed Safety Camera programs for work zones including program management, implementation, assessment of program effectiveness, quality assurance and vendor coordinationAbility to visit construction sites, perform physical investigation of work zone setups and field conditions, and monitor speed safety camera installations in the fieldRequired Skills and ExperienceBachelor's degree in civil engineering or relatedRegistered P.E. licenseSix (6) + years of experience in traffic engineering, particularly work zonesExcellent written and verbal communication skills including presentation skills and public speakingProblem-solving and analytical abilities, with the ability to use data and research to inform decision makingStrong knowledge of work zone traffic control strategies, safety strategies, the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and other relevant standards and regulationsPreferred QualificationsExperience with project management and coordinationFamiliarity with state and local traffic engineering standardsOther DutiesThis job description indicates the general nature and levels of work, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other essential functions (as covered under ADA).
