EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION:Do you have 7+ years inspecting transportation signals and ITS projects and a strong background with traffic signal/ITS installations, software/hardware integrations, and field inspection on roadway and bridge projects?MBP is looking for a Construction Inspector II (Signals/ITS) to support traffic signals and intelligent transportation systems projects. The role is ideal for professionals with 7+ years of progressively responsible inspection experience in transportation signals and ITS installations who are ready to take on broader coordination and verification responsibilities.What You'll Do:Serve as a key field representative for MBP on traffic signal and ITS assignments, coordinating with contractors, owners, and stakeholders to verify quality and contract conformance for projects of moderate to considerable complexity. Provide guidance on systems/software integration and acceptance activities for Traffic Signals & ITS devices, and support decision-making by identifying issues, recommending solutions, and elevating risks as needed. Oversee daily coordination related to codes, specifications, and project objectives while facilitating communication among project participants and supporting client interactions. Responsibilities include:Monitor and verify contractor work for quality control and contract compliance on traffic signal and ITS projects of moderate to considerable complexityOversee and coordinate system/software integration, testing, and factory acceptance monitoring for Traffic Signals & ITS devicesMonitor software development and software/hardware upgrades for Traffic Signal & ITS applicationsPerform field checks of “red-line” as-built plans to verify completenessPerform on-site field compliance inspection, quality assurance, and progress monitoring for conformance to specifications and codes across various construction projectsDevelop and review payment applicationsVerify that maintenance and new construction conform to contracts, plans, specifications, approved shop drawings, permit requirements, and approved materials lists; communicate discrepancies and coordinate corrective actionsPerform required materials testingPerform basic to moderate surveying and measurements to check line, grade, and roadway/structural element dimensions; advise contractors on discrepanciesCommunicate effectively with agency, contractor, and MBP personnelConduct final inspections, prepare punchlists, and verify completion or correction of itemsMaintain project records including daily diaries with detailed locations of work, equipment, materials records, project photos, and inspection reports; prepare calculations and associated sketches, including team activitiesTrack submittals and RFIs and maintain project correspondenceInspect grading, paving, demolition, special design bridge, signal, signing, coating, utility, and other special projects as assignedResearch proper inspection and construction methods to meet inspection requirementsReview performance of, and assist in oversight, training, and development of Inspector I, Inspector Trainee, and Interns/Co-ops; provide daily advising on corrective actions to support teamwork and project successReview and/or prepare daily reports for project diaries, as-builts, plans, materials books, and workbooksPrepare and check construction reports and monthly project estimates; make corrections and forward to appropriate partiesAssist in constructibility and biddability reviewsMonitor project budget and schedulesAssist in contractor’s monthly evaluationsProvide customer service and good etiquette to the traveling public, adjacent property owners, and project stakeholdersComplete administrative tasks including daily timesheets, monthly expense reports, and monthly mileage reportsParticipate in training and certifications and maintain those required for assigned workParticipate in company and branch meetingsCoordinate, monitor, and manage inspection activities on a project as requiredParticipate in shortlist interviews as requiredPerform duties of Construction Inspector I as needed Who We Are Looking ForExperience:Minimum of 7+ years of construction inspection experienceProgressively increasing responsibility inspecting construction work activities for traffic signals and intelligent transportation systems (ITS) installations similar to assigned projectsExperience across transportation signals and ITS projects, with exposure to grading, paving, demolitions, special design bridge, signal, signing, coating, utility, and other special projects as assignedEducation/Knowledge:High school diploma or GED with significant years of experience in engineering, architecture, or a skilled craft in the construction industry; or an equivalent combination of training and experienceInstallation and construction of Traffic Signal and ITS projectsSystem/software integration, testing, and factory acceptance monitoring for Traffic Signals & ITS devicesMonitoring of software development and software/hardware upgrades for Traffic Signal & ITS applicationsMulti-disciplined ITS environment: systems engineering, database technology, operating systems, transportation engineering, electrical and electronic engineeringLAN & WAN and telecommunications systemsInstallation of fiber optic systems, including splice operationsBasic mathematics including algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric computations based on field measurementsConstruction principles, inspection materials/methods/tools for construction, repair, or renovation (buildings, highways, roads, bridges)Multiple construction operations and interpretation of construction plans and contract specificationsClient or MBP construction management systems (e.g., SiteManager, HICAM, MBP’s OnTrack) or ability to learn within one month of hireComputer proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, email, internet navigation, web-based tools, and specialized equipmentConstruction-related training and/or experience demonstrating ability to perform dutiesPreferred Certifications:OSHA 10-hour or OSHA 30-hour (must possess or obtain within 3 months of hire)State DOT certifications as appropriate; WACEL; ICC; NICET; CMAA; NACE; MARTCPCertifications preferred for horizontal construction (as appropriate for DOT projects): Soil, Aggregate, Asphalt, Concrete, Nuclear Testing, Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, Traffic Control, and E & S ControlCertified Construction Manager (CCM) preferredConstruction Manager in Training (CMIT) preferredInternational Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Traffic Signal Field Technician II (must possess or be able to obtain within 2 months of hire)Skills and Abilities:Independently implement quality control proceduresUnderstand and track project schedulesCollect, analyze, and interpret statistical dataProvide technical supervision, leadership, and training to other inspectorsIdentify problems and derive recommended solutions using past experienceUse computers (including Microsoft Office software) and specialized equipmentRead and interpret construction plans and contract specifications for assigned inspection workApply mathematical formulas and engineering principles to determine field adjustmentsCommunicate inspection issues effectively and responsibly, verbally and in writing, with contractors, owners, subconsultants, and team membersUtilize surveying and measurement tools effectively, including survey levels, transits, four-foot levels, lock levels, measuring tapes, measuring wheels, straight edges, and other tools as necessaryObtain and maintain industry certifications specific to assigned dutiesStand and sit as needed on project work sites, climb ladders, work at heights, and work outdoors in a wide range of weather conditionsSafely navigate construction work sites with uneven terrainMaintain a valid driver’s license with a good driving recordTravel and drive regularlyGuidance/Responsibility:Assignments received from Engineers/Consultants (typically Lead or Senior), Project Inspectors, Construction Manager, or Project ManagerPublic and client interface in day-to-day activitiesWorks with decreasing supervision over time;
