Mainframe Systems Administrator

Description We are looking for an experienced Mainframe Systems Administrator to join our team in West Des Moines, Iowa. This contract-to-permanent position offers an exciting opportunity to work in the life insurance industry, supporting and optimizing mainframe systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in mainframe environments and a strong background in programming and system management. THIS ROLE CAN BE REMOTE IN THE SURROUNDING STATES OF IOWA Responsibilities: u2022 Manage and maintain mainframe systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability. u2022 Develop, test, and implement COBOL programs to support organizational needs. u2022 Administer and configure mainframe technologies, including z/OS and CICS environments. u2022 Monitor and resolve system issues, ensuring minimal downtime and effective troubleshooting. u2022 Write and maintain JCL scripts for batch processing and system operations. u2022 Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance system capabilities and implement new features. u2022 Utilize CA-7 software to schedule and manage job workflows efficiently. u2022 Perform system upgrades and patches to maintain security and functionality. u2022 Analyze system performance metrics to identify areas for improvement. u2022 Document procedures and provide training for team members on mainframe operations. Requirements u2022 Minimum of 7 years of experience working with mainframe systems and programming. u2022 Proficiency in COBOL across all versions, with strong programming skills. u2022 Hands-on experience with IBM mainframe environments and technologies. u2022 In-depth knowledge of CICS and z/OS systems. u2022 Expertise in JCL scripting and MVS JCL operations. u2022 Familiarity with CA-7 software for job scheduling and workflow management. u2022 Understanding of assembler language and its application in mainframe systems. u2022 Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
