We are seeking exceptional candidateswhose research is focused on understanding how viruses cause humancancer, using basic, mechanistic studies of how viruses interact withtheir host cells to infect, persist and induce cancer. Candidates shoulddemonstrate a proven record of studying one or more tumor viruses anddemonstrate that they have the potential to establish a productive,extramurally funded research program. Candidates also need to describehow they will contribute to mentoring and teaching undergraduate,graduate and professional students in the field of virology, as this isfundamental to our academic mission. The successful candidate will beexpected to participate in professional, university, and communityservice appropriate to rank. The new hire for this position will moveinto an extremely strong, supportive research environment with anunusually large, highly interactive and collaborative community ofvirologists. This includes many tumor virologists, a priority areaalready bolstered by several recent hires. These tumor virologists alsoparticipate in and benefit from the Human Cancer Virology Program withinthe University's NCI-designated comprehensive Carbone Cancer Center,and from our partnerships with the UW Institute for Molecular Virology,the private Morgridge Institute for Research, and other campus units. Weare looking for candidates who will interact productively with these andother faculty in this highly collegial and collative academicenvironment.
