Job Summary/Basic Function Join Our Team at Millersville University! The Tell School of Music is seeking a qualified and passionate music educator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in Kodály pedagogy and a strong background in teaching general music at the K-12 level. Responsibilities include supervising K-12 student teachers. The position requires a combination of academic qualifications, practical teaching experience, and a commitment to excellence in music education. Applicants must be prepared to participate in a successful interview process, including a teaching demonstration.Temporary, part-time instructor responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in Music. The State System Employee Benefits Summary for faculty can be found at: TEACHING AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Responsibilities include conducting observations, providing feedback, and mentoring student teachers in their professional development. Utilize a variety of instructional methods, such as demonstrations, discussions, and appropriate online tools or platforms, to support effective learning and teaching practices in higher education. Part-time faculty members shall maintain a prorated number of office hours each week, at a minimum of twenty-five minutes for each workload hour taught, at such days, times and locations as will accommodate the needs of the students. DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION: The Tell School of Music in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences comprises 12 full-time and 19 part-time faculty members, two support staff, and music majors and minors. It offers programs in the Bachelor of Science in Music Education, the Bachelor of Arts in Music, the Bachelor of Science in Music Industry with concentrations in Production, Management, and Live audio, the minor in Music, and courses in general education. In addition, it offers large and small ensemble experiences for music majors and general students and Millersville University is accredited by NASM. The music education program complies with the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE). Required Qualifications Master’s degree in Music Education or equivalent. (Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree and 15 or more graduate credits will also be considered.) Kodály Pedagogy Certification from the Kodály Institute (Liszt Academy, Budapest, Hungary) or an OAKE-Endorsed Kodály Teacher Education Program. Demonstrated knowledge and experience teaching K-12 general music (K-5 and/or middle/secondary) Demonstrated knowledge and experience teaching K-5, middle, or high school general music. Ability to supervise and mentor student teachers at K-5 and/or middle/high school levels. Successful interview. Serve as a liaison to the College of Education. Successful completion of three background checks. Preferred Qualifications PhD or ABD in Music or related discipline. Prior college-level teaching experience.
