Job Description GENERAL PURPOSE Perform the majority of truck and/or trailer maintenance and repairs with minimal support of others, ensuring that equipment is available and in optimal operating condition. Work with the assistance of other mechanics or supervisors when performing highly technical or intricate diagnostic repairs. Work under minimal supervision, exercising some judgment and discretion in resolving issues or making repairs. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES u00b7 Perform basic to moderately difficult vehicle and preventive maintenance, component replacements, and repairs u00b7 Maintain, repair, inspect, and/or replace brakes, steering mechanisms, springs, air bags, lights, air conditioners, water, fuel, oil, air filters, coolant and chemicals, transmissions, tire air pressure, tire tread, tires, chassis, drive lines, u-joints, air tanks, batteries, air lines, power cords, wipers, mirrors, drive train components, or other equipment as necessary u00b7 Perform facility maintenance duties u00b7 Use shop management system and other electronic systems available u00b7 Diagnose mechanical and electronic problems, using diagnostic computer when applicable u00b7 Identify root cause of failures/conditions and perform repairs as required u00b7 Interact with drivers to properly determine nature of complaint once assigned a task u00b7 Work in accordance with all federal, state, and corporate compliance guidelines (e.g., safety, DOT) u00b7 Complete work orders and paperwork in a timely and accurate manner, maintaining high quality standards in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPu2019s) u00b7 Respond to accidents or inoperable vehicles to transport equipment back to shop for repair, if appropriate u00b7 Keep management informed of safety, operator, and equipment observations and concerns u00b7 Assist in identifying opportunities to improve processes, utilizing continuous improvement mindset u00b7 Maintain a clean, sanitary and safe work area which may include wearing of all required personal protective equipment in designated areas, confined space safety, safe chemical handling, fall restraints, etc. u00b7 Assist and mentor less experienced mechanics u00b7 The requirements herein are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by employee, but is not a complete list of responsibilities, duties, and skills required. Other duties may be assigned as required Requirements EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE u00b7 High school diploma or equivalent u00b7 2 to 4 years of mechanic, maintenance, or related experience u00b7 Certification and/or License u2013 Mechanic certification, CDL license, refrigeration license, or other relevant certifications or licenses may be required KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES u00b7 Skill with engines, anti-lock braking system, transmission, diagnostic equipment, and software u00b7 Basic computer skills u00b7 Knowledge and understanding of DOT regulations u00b7 Able to read and understand driver inspection reports u00b7 Able to assist other mechanics on complex repairs in a safe and useful manner u00b7 Able to operate tools, equipment, and peripheral accessories u00b7 Able to independently access and use internal and external maintenance documents u00b7 Able to work in a team environment u00b7 Able to perform tasks and duties without constant supervision u00b7 Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing u00b7 Able to follow directions u00b7 Able to problem solve u00b7 Able to work in a fast-paced environment u00b7 Must be able to read, write and speak English An Equal Opportunity Employer including Disabled/Veterans
