Lead Java Developer

We are seeking a senior-level Lead Java Developer to serve as a Technical Lead and Enterprise Architect for a large New York State government system. This role focuses on the modernization, maintenance, and stability of high-volume tax processing applications supporting thousands of users. The ideal candidate has strong technical leadership experience, is comfortable managing large development teams, and can bridge legacy IBM mainframe environments with modern distributed systems. This is a long-term contract opportunity offering stability and involvement in mission-critical government technology initiatives. This is a 30 month position. Responsibilities Lead and manage large technical teams (25+ members) Oversee enterprise application architecture and system modernization Support and enhance large-scale Java/.NET and legacy COBOL systems Ensure system stability, performance, and disaster recovery readiness Coordinate with executive and government stakeholders Requirements 7+ years of senior technical leadership experience Strong background in Java and enterprise application development Experience with large-scale systems and high-volume users Familiarity with IBM mainframe environments (COBOL, DB2, WebSphere) Experience in government or financial systems preferred
