Apply Today Job Summary and Qualifications Position Summary The principal software engineer is responsible for providing engineering leadership across all facets of system and application design and implementation. This role will actively develop software solutions both independently and in a team. The principal software engineer provides leadership and technical mentorship to foster a collaborative and effective working relationship between business, analysts, developers, and other teams within the organization. The role requires excellent communication, proposal, and presentation skills to inform senior management and development staff of status and direction. This position works within an innovation team that operates on multiple initiatives across the enterprise. The principal software engineer must be comfortable in moving to different technical ecosystems from project to project that will require discovery and adaptation to systems, teams, and business stakeholders. Major Responsibilities: u2022 Promote a collaborative team environment and work closely with colleagues to achieve business objectives. u2022 Collaborate with stakeholders (e.g. business stakeholders, product owners, project managers, and end users) to understand functional and non-functional requirements. u2022 Lead Investigations and solution proposals to development and design problems. u2022 Guide team members in scope of work estimation and forecasting. u2022 Performing proof-of-concept or proof-technology tasks to get buy-in from cohorts and stakeholders. u2022 Collaborates with team members to successfully execute development initiatives using Agile practices and principles u2022 Gather requirements, designs, constructs and deliver solutions either individually or with a team u2022 Serve as a leader to the teamu2019s continuous integration and continuous delivery automation pipeline u2022 Participates in large-scale development projects involving multiple areas outside of core team u2022 Designs fit-for-purpose products to ensure products align to the customer's strategic plans and technology road maps u2022 Formulate unit and integration tests and conduct functional and performance testing where appropriate. u2022 Adhere to and influence established development practices and processes. u2022 Practices and adheres to the u201cCode of Conductu201d philosophy and u201cMission and Value Statement.u201d u2022 Training and mentoring of peers and other staff u2022 Performs other duties as assigned Education & Experience: u2022 Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field required u2022 12+ years of experience a Software development or engineering roles required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Behaviors: u2022 Growth mindset and a willingness to learn new skills, technologies, and frameworks required u2022 Full-stack experience working with various languages, platforms, and other tools, systems including, but not limited to some combination of: SQL or noSQL databases (e.g. SQL Server, DB2, Teradata, CosmosDB, MongoDB), ETL and data-pipeline type tools (e.g. SSIS, GCP DataFlow, Azure DataFactory), message queue type systems (e.g. Azure EventHub, GCP PubSub, Kafka, RabbitMQ), microservice environments (e.g. Docker/Kubernetes, C#, Java, Python, NodeJS), and APIs (e.g. REST, OpenAPI) required u2022 Experience interfacing with or working within CRM, ERP, eCommerce, or EMR/EHR solutions and common integration patterns preferred u2022 Experience with DevOps tooling (e.g. GitHub, Azure DevOps) required u2022 Experience with diagramming tools (e.g. Visio) required u2022 Strong Experience in cloud native, deploying within cloud environments, serverless development and/or container-based solutions required u2022 Strong understanding of best practices in the design of REST-based APIs required u2022 Strong Understanding of agile methodology and software development lifecycles required u2022 Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical information in a condensed manner to various stakeholders verbally and in writing required u2022 Ability to lead community events with a focus on software development or delivery required u2022 Excellent problem solving and analytical skills required u2022 Troubleshooting skills including experience working with utilities for log analysis and load testing required u2022 Ability to work independently and lead a team to specific outcomes required u2022 Strong ability to understand context for code, the codebase, and its relation to business objectives required u2022 Understanding of IT contracting and purchasing practices preferred u2022 Ability to lead technical interviews of potential candidates of vary levels preferred u2022 Ability to sit for long periods of time required HCA Healthcare has been recognized as one of the World's Most Ethical Companiesu00ae by the Ethisphere Institute more than ten times.
