The Opportunity We are looking for an Associate Principal, Mechanical Engineer / Project Manager to join our growing multi-disciplinary team in New York (or New Jersey with flexibility to support the NY market). You will lead mechanical design and coordination for a variety of projects, including healthcare, academic buildings, institutional and government buildings, museums, laboratories, commercial offices, and mission critical facilities. This strategic hire is part of our long-term growth plan and will help strengthen our market-facing capabilities in the region. You will be responsible for contributing to business development efforts, leading projects as a PM and mentoring junior staff. As a senior leader, you will help grow the office both in terms of staff and revenue. The current team has a wide range of experience and needs support and guidance. You will be supported by the wider Arup team in the region, giving you the opportunity to grow within the organization and rise in leadership. Being part of a wider multi-disciplinary team, you will collaborate across disciplines on challenging and meaningful projects. You will provide technical support, identify key staffing needs, and take responsibility for both the technical and financial success of your projects. The opportunity: u00b7 We are seeking a candidate who brings: u00b7 10u201315 years of mechanical engineering design experience, ideally in complex MEP systems. u00b7 Professional Engineer (PE) license, ideally in the State of New York u00b7 Experience managing large-scale projects from start to finish, with exposure to full lifecycle delivery. u00b7 A strong presence in the New York market, with familiarity with local codes, clients, and project delivery. u00b7 Broad sector experience, including: u00b7 Property (large-scale) u00b7 Healthcare u00b7 Central plant (preferred but not required) u00b7 Data centers / SIT (a plus) u00b7 Proven leadership and mentoring capabilities. u00b7 Ability to settle into a senior role and build trust quickly. The skills: u00b7 Minimum 10 years of related experience with a consistent record of mechanical system design for buildings, incorporating sustainability goals. u00b7 Bacheloru2019s Degree in Mechanical Engineering required. u00b7 PE required; experienced engineer of record preferred. u00b7 Experience negotiating contracts, terms, and conditions aligned with commercial objectives. u00b7 Proven ability to identify and win new projects aligned with strategic goals. u00b7 Strong client relationship management and business development skills. u00b7 Experience preparing proposals and bid submissions. u00b7 Ability to identify and mitigate technical, regulatory, and contractual risks. u00b7 Focus on low-carbon and zero-energy design strategies. u00b7 Financial acumen in monitoring budgets, expenses, and project performance. u00b7 Implementation of quality control and risk management practices. u00b7 Experience identifying staffing needs and participating in recruitment and hiring. u00b7 Commitment to mentoring and career development of team members. Options for alternative schedules and the ability to work outside of the office for a portion of your workweek are available New York / New Jersey Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in NY/NJ is $171,000 to $240,000 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of NY/NJ will differ.
