Operations Supervisor - Chicago Job ID #: 31760 Location: IL-CHICAGO Functional Area: Management Position Type: Full Time Experience Required: 3 - 5 Years Relocation Provided: No Education Required: Bachelors Degree RC/Department: 6464 -MWREG CHICAGO TERMINAL :KMLQT Position Description The Operations Supervisor is the essential management leader responsible for resourcing, organizing, scheduling and tracking all daily operations within a hazardous liquids storage facility. Primary focus is direct leadership of all union laborers and management of the plant operating environment. This includes basic operational stewardship of more than 30 customersu2019 products in 86 above ground storage tanks, liaison with supported customers, incident response and investigation and ensuring equipment and infrastructure are operational and performing within regulatory and industry standards. This position must be able to lead their workforce by example in all areas such as Safety, Kinder Morgan Values, Environmental Protection, Financial Responsibility, and Attitude. Demonstrate excellent decision making ability and be able to perform well with little guidance. Additionally responsible for training, developing and disciplining Union employees commensurate with the Companyu2019s vision and progressive discipline plans. Perform other duties as assigned by operations managers. Ensure work environment remains clean and safe at all times. Maintain adherence to DOT, OSHA, and BATF regulations as well as various other guidelines, standards, and company operating procedures. Mandatory drug screening and background check upon hire. Facility operates 24/7 and weekend, night, and holiday work is required. A successful candidate must be able to effectively perform the following key tasks: u2022 On a daily basis, direct and utilize the union workforce to complete specific tasks, primarily in the storage and handling of bulk liquid commodities and operation of all related equipment and facilities to achieve zero injuries, zero employee preventable releases and ensure efficient workforce utilization. u2022 Openly and actively support the Companyu2019s Management Team initiatives and decisions with peers and subordinates. u2022 Estimate manning requirements for specific jobs and temporarily transfer employees between job classifications when necessary. u2022 Be knowledgeable of and ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and regulatory requirements to ensure safe, efficient and compliant facility operation. u2022 Direct and inspect the pumping of commodities into/out of terminal storage tanks to and from various modes of transportation. u2022 Assure the integrity of all products handled and that the product is not allowed to contaminate the soil, groundwater or other store product. u2022 Manage the daily operation of the facilityu2019s heating system operation, ensuring that the boilers and electric heat tracing systems are operated per procedure and that the system is properly maintained. u2022 Communicate sufficiently and professionally with all terminal employees to ensure appropriate individuals have the necessary information to meet the goals of the facility. u2022 Prepare time worksheets for assigned hourly employees and approves overtime and special pay. u2022 Accurately process plant operating orders and other required paperwork. u2022 Arrange for and follow through on the maintenance of equipment as required in conjunction with the Maintenance Supervisor to ensure timely repairs or PM of equipment. u2022 Take timely action in the event of injuries, releases, fires, property damage, etc. to minimize injury and negative impact to the environment. u2022 Take action to prevent incidents by recommending improvements to equipment, systems and procedures. u2022 Schedule, track and supervise required training for all terminal personnel; specifically train direct reports in a professional manner to achieve a knowledgeable workforce. Actively participate in the administering of the training programs and field spot evaluations of employees. u2022 Lead initiatives for improvement and efficiency with regards to area of responsibility, make recommendations and serve as project lead for issues identified in areas outside of immediate responsibility as required. u2022 Communicate information clearly and concisely through wireless radios, telephone, email, handwritten messages and in person. u2022 Serve as the Incident Commander for all incidents and accidents within the plant until properly relieved. u2022 Perform tasks as directed by management and established procedures. Position Requirements A Bachelor's degree or five years applicable experience is required. Job Requirements: u2022 Minimum of two years of leadership / management experience in a dynamic environment. u2022 Exemplary communications skills u2013 both oral and written. u2022 Proven ability to take initiative and lead subordinates to accomplish defined goals in a fast paced environment. u2022 The ability to work from decentralized instructions (written and verbal). u2022 Must be able to respond to emergencies when necessary. u2022 Must be able to split time between industrial and office environments during daily operations. u2022 Must be able to work quickly and make informed decisions independently and accurately under pressure. u2022 Must be able to work various hours outside of scheduled shift to meet the demands of the business. u2022 Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers. u2022 Mandatory drug screen and background check upon hire. u2022 Must successfully obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) as required by the Transportation Security Administration at the start of employment. Preferred Experience: u2022 A working knowledge of flammable liquids is preferred. u2022 Experience managing a union work force is preferred.
