Job Summary: The Administrative Supervisor is a nursingformal leader who Represents administration during evening, night,weekend and holiday shifts and has oversight for the decisions impactingeffective and efficient clinical operations and nursing care delivery.Serves as the highest on-site authority for the Department of Nursingduring evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts. Takes direction fromNursing Director on Call and the Hospital Administrator on call. Servesas a liaison to, consults with or escalates issues to on-call leaderswithin Risk Management, Human Resources, Public Relations and EmergencyManagement. Serves as an expert administrative or clinical resourcein complex, high-risk or problem-prone situations and intervenesaccordingly. Provides direction to assistant nurse managers, chargenurses and other staff. Coordinates and facilitates the placement ofpatients according to established criteria. Acts collaboratively as aliaison between the Department of Nursing and the Access Center,Admitting, Surgical Services, Emergency Department, Cath Lab andInterventional Radiology to anticipate and expedite timely patientplacement. Responsible for assuring appropriate staffing and resourcemanagement on off-shifts, weekends or holidays. Collaborates withLogistics staff, Charge Nurses/Shift flow coordinators to ensure thatthere are appropriate numbers and competent staff to care for patientson all units and that staffing decisions are made according to staffingmatrix and acuity of the patients. Applies knowledge of the scope ofpractice of each nursing unit and its operations in decision-making orconsultation. Knowledge of sound nursing practice, overall hospitaladministration, emergency management, crisis intervention, conflictresolution, negotiation, and delegation are essential to effectiveperformance. Reports to Nurse Manager of Hospital Capacity ResourceManagement who in turn reports to the Director of Nursing Hospital Capacity Management. EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION: A minimum of 3 years ofclinical experience in which leadership competence has been demonstratedis required. A minimum of 2 years of experience in a leadership role(e.g. Charge RN, Supervisor, Assistant Nurse Manager) is preferred.Additional specialty nursing experience (e.g. critical care) ispreferred. EDUCATION DESCRIPTION: Degree in Nursing (Baccalaureate orGraduate) is required. If in position as of December 1, 2012, thiseducational requirement will be waived. Graduate Degree (Nursing orRelated Field) is preferred. SPECIAL SKILLS DESCRIPTION: Knowledge ofnursing theory and practice and ability to apply that knowledge byappropriate integration of nursing practice into multiple acute caresettings. Ability to motivate, inspire and support nursing staff andcolleagues to attain excellence in professional nursing practice.Ability to work effectively and develop positive working relationshipswith leaders, staff and physicians in all levels of the organization.Excellent written and verbal communication skills. LICENSUREDESCRIPTION: Requires current state of Wisconsin Registered NurseLicense or a Multi-state Nursing License from a participating state inthe NLC (Nurse Licensure Compact). Certification in a Nursing Specialty(e.g. Nursing Executive) is preferred.
