This individual: + Assists in opening and closing the patient's spine. + Assists in opening and closing surgical wounds. + Performs debridement of primary and secondary closure of muscle flaps. + Employees in some areas may be required to assist with bone grafts, as well as, harvest and prepare bone graft for spinal fusion. + Assists in spine procedures including anterior cervical disectomy/fusion, posterior cervical fusion, anterior thoracic/lumbar decompression/fusion, posterior thoracic/lumbar decompression/fusion, and insertion of spinal instruments. + Preps, positions, catherizes, and drapes patients and assists in exposing and suturing wounds. + Assists in management of patients during emergency situations. + Maintains confidentiality, patient privacy, and operation room standards. + Works with manager to formulate plan for professional development. + Attends educational in-services as appropriate. + Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments. + Complies with and adheres to departmental policies and procedures in accordance with state, federal, and organizational guidelines. + Performs other related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications: + All nurses employed in roles requiring an unencumbered nursing license must have a valid, active license or temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing Board. + Successful completion of the Emory Surgical Assistant training program or a Registered Nurse/Physician's Assistant nationally certified as an Registered Nurse First Assistant. + BLS and Healthcare Provider certifications required.
