Starting Salary is dependent upon the selected candidate's relevant qualifications, experience, and internal equity: $21.69 - $25.81 hourly / $45,115 - $53,684.80 annually (steps 1-10) Work Arrangements: This position is 100% in-person due to HIPAA requirements and a secure work setup for working with medical records. Standard work hours for this position apply, with a typical work schedule consisting of M-F 8am - 4:30pm or M-F 9am - 5pm. Onsite Location: Epidemiology Clinical Research Center (ECRC), 1100 Washington Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55415 Center Overview The Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults (CARDIA) Study examines the development and determinants of clinical and subclinical cardiovascular disease and their risk factors. It began in 1985-6 with a group of 5115 Black and White men and women aged 18-30 years. The participants were selected so that there would be approximately the same number of people in subgroups of race, gender, education (high school or less and more than high school) and age (18-24 and 25-30 years) in each of four field centers: Birmingham, AL; Chicago, IL; Minneapolis, MN; and Oakland, CA. The CARDIA Outcomes The CARDIA Outcomes Specialist will support the collection of medical and death records for study participants (who now are a mean age of 65) and maintain study wide databases for successful study metrics. This position will report to Grace Runnoe, CARDIA Study Coordinator, with ultimate oversight by the CARDIA PI team, Drs. Faye Norby and Weihong Tang. Position Responsibilities Medical records collection for tracked health outcomes as determined by the CARDIA protocol (30%): Communicate with hospital administrators in order to maintain fidelity of protocols to obtain medical records Assess medical records to determine if availability of necessary diagnostic indicators, and follow-up as needed Integrate medical record files within the existing house filing system Redact medical records (i.e. remove extraneous information), such as remove extraneous information and protected health information prior to transfer to the CARDIA Coordinating Center Death record collection for CARDIA study participants as determined by the CARDIA protocol (30%): Obtains death records by working with families of deceased participants to obtain consent for release and/or contacts state directly to request and obtain these records Order death certificates online from appropriate state vital records departments and/or request death certificates in person from MDH (for local deaths) Redact death records (i.e. remove extraneous information) prior to transfer to the CARDIA Coordinating Center Manages daily data entry and maintenance of participant information in CARDIA databases and tracking systems (30%): Manages and updates details of internal CARDIA database including scheduling participant clinic exams, follow up, morbidity and mortality Runs weekly status reports to evaluate numbers and percentages Maintains and performs daily updates in participant databases Works with the Clinic Coordinator to update information that is not maintained by the Coordinating Center vs. information that is in the participant management system (PMS) Other tasks as assigned by the CARDIA Coordinator and study team (10%) Assisting with participant recruitment activities such as assembling study wide mailings, holiday card distribution and annual newsletters Attends appropriate CARDIA study meetings During exam years this may include: Assisting with training of clinical staff regarding collection of hospitalization info mation from participants while they are in clinic Helping with scheduling clinic visits and negotiating travel reimbursements Assisting with preparation of clinic exam invitation Qualifications All required qualifications must be documented on application materials. Required Qualifications: High School Diploma or Equivalent plus 2 years of related experience in medical, clerical or research fields Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and spoken Demonstrated organizational skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the other retention staff to balance workload and share ideas including local staff and study wide staff across all four field centers Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and work on multiple tasks concurrently. Ability to maintain participant privacy and uphold confidentiality / HIPAA standards Commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful environment for all staff and CARDIA participants Microsoft Office Suite proficiency Desired Qualifications: Familiarity with medical terminology Experience or interest in chronic disease, particularly cardiovascular disease Writing experience, both in terms of business communications and professional participant contact Experience with REDCap, data entry, database management and multi-screen computer setups Experience with Epic, electronic medical records and medical records request portals (MRO) Are you excited about this job and meet the required qualifications, but your past experience doesn't align perfectly with every preferred qualification?
