Job Summary The Lab Assistant is responsible forsupporting laboratory operations by performing phlebotomy on patients,maintaining lab equipment, processing of specimens, performing tests andquality control, and ensuring the lab safety protocols are followed.This role reports to the lab leader. What you will do Performvenipuncture and capillary puncture on adult, neonatal and pediatricpatients according to established protocol. Identifies and labelsspecimens. Assists in care of patient prior to, during, and aftercollection. Check-in patients and verify that all necessary informationis accurate and complete while processing the test orders in thecomputer system, utilizing both Epic and Laboratory Information Systemaccording to laboratory protocol. Instruct patients in all urine, stool,and other bodily fluid collection procedures and testing requirementsand obtain and process urine specimen for drug screening. Preparesequipment to efficiently collect blood products and cleans and maintainsequipment in work area. Inventories supplies for re-order, and routinelystock supplies. Answer telephones, maintain logs, create files, maintaininventories of supplies. Order entry in the laboratory informationsystem. Education Qualifications High School Diploma and/or GED RequiredSkills and Abilities Ability to become and maintain proficiency in thecomputer systems. Excellent communication skills with internal andexternal customers of the lab. Communicate in a manner that promotesclinic and laboratory professionalism as well as a comfortableexperience for the patient. Ability to establish and maintain effectiveworking relationships. Ability to work under pressure and maintain highlevel of accuracy. Ability to follow detailed instructions,appropriately prioritize tasks, and hold strong problem-solving skills.Ability to learn and interpret state and federal laws and regulationsand stay updated with federal regulatory changes.
