Dental Assistant Job Category: Patient Services Requisition Number:DENTA001049 Full-Time On-site Springfield, MA Principle Responsibilitiesand Duties: Assists dentist during examination and treatment ofpatients. Prepares patients for dental procedures, sterilizes anddisinfects instruments, sets up instrument trays, prepares materials,and assists dentists during dental procedures. Takes and records medicaland dental histories and vital signs of patients. Pours and trims studycasts. Cleans and polishes removable appliances. Assists the dentist inthe management of medical and dental emergencies. Prepares dental supplyorders as necessary anticipating the needs of the clinic. Knowledgeableof dental office clinical equipment and individual maintenance/cleaningschedules for such equipment (autoclave, period-pro, various low andhigh-speed handpieces, etc.). Keeps equipment service records onclinical dental equipment. Provides post-operative instructionsprescribed by the dentist. Records treatment information in patientrecords as directed by the dentist. May be called on to help at thefront desk with scanning, confirming appointments, schedulingappointments, preparing bills and receiving payments for dentalservices, completing insurance forms, and maintaining clerical records,manually or using a computer. Actively participates in staff meetings.Works as part of a team Perform tasks as asked by the Dental PracticeManager to ensure that the Clinic is operating efficiently. In additionto the above, the Certified Dental Assistant may perform the following:Oral prophylaxis Instruct patient in oral hygiene Application ofsealants Application of fluoride Expose dental diagnostic x-rays Makepreliminary impressions for study casts and occlusal registrations formounting study casts Application of matrix bands Etching and bonding oftooth surfaces Fabrication of temporary restorations. This position alsorequires the ability to use a computer, work at a computer workstation,view a CRT, and have some knowledge of a keyboard.
