OSP Technician Department: Outside PlantReports To: OSP Project ManagerPOSITION SUMMARYWe are seeking a skilled OSP Technician with a valid CDL to support the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fiber optic infrastructure in the field. This role requires hands-on work with aerial and underground plant, as well as operating construction vehicles and equipment. The ideal candidate is experienced in telecom construction, committed to safety, and comfortable working in various outdoor environments.RESPONSIBILITIESInstall, splice, and test fiber optic cables in both aerial and underground settingsOperate and maintain construction vehicles including bucket trucks, trailers, and utility trucksLocate existing utilities and ensure safe digging practicesRead and interpret construction prints, route maps, and work ordersPerform site prep, conduit installation, handhole placement, and pole transfersIdentify and troubleshoot signal loss, fiber breaks, or network damageAdhere to all safety procedures and regulatory requirements (OSHA, DOT, etc.)Complete daily reports and communicate job status to supervisors or project managersEnsure all tools and equipment are maintained and used properlyCORE COMPETENCIESThere are several competencies required to be successful in this position. The following are some of the most important and definitions of each are included at the end of this job posting: Safety and Security, Quality of work, and Results-Orientation.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS3+ years of experience in outside plant or telecom constructionValid Class A or B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with a clean driving recordExperience operating bucket trucks, trailers, and other heavy equipmentProficient in fiber splicing, testing (OTDR, power meter), and repairComfortable working at heights and in confined spacesStrong understanding of safety standards (fall protection, traffic control, trench safety)Ability to travel to various job sites as neededValid drivers license (CDL preferred)JOB DETAILS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThis role requires extensive travel with the ability to travel to various locations to perform job duties. Travel schedules may be predictable, or variable depending on the needs of the project and may take short trips, longer trips, or extended stays depending on the needs of the project. A company vehicle is provided.Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs on a regular basisAbility to walk, bend, kneel, crouch, or stand for extended periodsWillingness to work at heights, on ladders, in bucket trucks, or on polesComfortable working in confined spaces such as handholes or manholesAbility to operate and safely handle power tools and heavy equipmentTolerance for working in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, wind)Capable of extended travel to remote job sites as neededAbility to wear and operate in required PPE, including hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, gloves, and fall protection gearThis position requires the ability to crouch and stand in undefined positions in narrow spaces to operate machinery or manufacturing PENSATION & BENEFITSBase pay is paid an hourly rate.
