Reference #: JR19Job Title: Open Rank Faculty, PathologyDepartment:Biomedical Sciences (Cathy Hatcher)FLSA:United States of America (Exempt)Location:Philadelphia CampusThe Department of Bio-Medical Sciences of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine is currently seeking a qualified individual for an open rank faculty to educate osteopathic medical students in Pathology. PCOM is committed to preparing professionals for the dynamic landscape of healthcare. We are seeking a highly motivated and passionate individual to join our team of educators. This faculty member will engage in scholarly activity related to medical education and will have the responsibility to contribute to the college's commitment to the advancement of knowledge and intellectual growth through teaching and research, and to the well-being of the community through leadership and service. In addition, they will develop professional relationships with students for academic, career, and personal advising. All faculty contribute to PCOM's mission through active participation on institutional and departmental committees and in other activities for the institution. There is no expectation of hospital activity or clinical laboratory responsibilities in this role.ESSENTIAL SUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIESDuties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:Teaching: 70%Teach broadly in the areas of Pathology/PathophysiologyEducate medical students in Pathology across a 2-year preclinical curriculum.Collaborate with basic and clinical science educators to coordinate the horizontal and vertical integration of pathology and pathophysiology within organ/system-based courses.Prepare learning objectives and lecture materials for assigned lectures.Actively contribute to creation of educationally appropriate assessment questions for osteopathic studentsImplement effective remediation experiences for students when needed.Mentor and advise medical students in academic and curricular matters.Participate in development and facilitation of clinical case presentations for active learning as assigned.Support technological platforms that link course content, activities and assessments.Position may include responsibilities as Course Director.Other duties as assigned.Service: 15%Participate in administrative duties including service on institutional and departmental committees as negotiated and assigned.Scholarly activity/research: 15%POSITION REQUIREMENTSApplicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. and pass a criminal background checkEducationA terminal degree in Pathology or Pathophysiology is required, e. g. DO, MD or PhDCertification, Licensure, RegistrationDO or MD applicants should be board-certified in Anatomic Pathology by the American Osteopathic Board of Pathology or the American Board of PathologyExperienceThree (3) years of teaching experience is required, preferably in medical education.Experience in teaching Pathology/Pathophysiology is required.Experience in active learning is preferredExperience in a collaborative approach to education is preferred.Engagement in scholarly activities is encouraged, but not required.Application InstructionsAll inquiries should include:Letter of intentStatement of teaching philosophyStatement of scholarly interests (if applicable)Curriculum vitaeCompensation will be commensurate with the candidate's experience, education, and the responsibilities of the role.The referenced salary range is based on PCOM good faith belief at the time of posting.
