The goals include determining the structures, dynamics, and functional interactions of kinases and their regulatory subunits. Sample Preparation and NMR Experiments (65%): You will express, purify, and assess the activity of protein kinases using biochemical assays. This involves executing experimental procedures related to the characterization of kinases and their interactions with regulatory subunits through NMR spectroscopy and other biophysical techniques. Training and Supervision (20%): You will train technicians and students in NMR methodologies and supervise data acquisition. Participation in Seminars (5%): You will present findings at monthly lab meetings, give at least one formal seminar per year (either locally or at relevant national meetings), and regularly attend local seminars and journal clubs. Grant Proposal Planning (5%): You will assist in planning and drafting extramural research proposals, working closely with your direct supervisor on portions relevant to newly developed methodologies. Scientific Manuscript Drafting (5%): You will serve as the primary author of manuscripts that communicate experimental results. Restrictions: Limited to a period of three years up to five, depending on training needs. The individual may be immediately post-degree or returning for additional training, updating, and retooling. Limited to fields for which post-degree training is necessary for career entry. Post-doctoral associates cannot be appointed on sponsored institutional training grants, sponsored individual fellowship or training awards. Post-doctoral associates are University of Minnesota employees. They are receiving additional training while also performing services for the University, for which they are compensated. Note: These are not positions to which permanent residency can be granted for international appointees. Preferred Qualifications: Ideal candidates will have experience in NMR spectroscopy of small molecules or biomacromolecules (e.g., proteins, DNA, RNA, and biomolecular complexes such as protein-protein and protein-DNA). Proficiency in NMR-related software, as well as designing and implementing new NMR pulse sequences, is preferred. Experience with programming languages such as Python and C++, as well as molecular dynamics simulations and modeling, is also desirable. About the Department BMBB: The department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biophysics is committed to understanding the molecular mechanisms of metabolic diseases and cancer; developing novel strategies in biocatalysis and biotechnology; and advancing knowledge through structural biology and molecular biophysics. We organize ourselves into research divisions with emphases on Chemical and Structural Biology, Metabolic and Systems Biology, Molecular Biology and Synthetic Biology and Biotechnology. We are housed in new buildings with state-of-the-art research and support facilities.
