Department of EngineeringJob Title: Engineering Technician II Grade: 12Salary: $53,396 - $60,942THIS IS A COMPETITIVE CIVIL SERVICE POSITION. APPOINTMENT WILL BE MADE ON A PROVISIONAL BASIS UNTIL THE EXAM RESULTS ARE POSTED. YOU MUST BE REACHABLE FOR PERMANENT APPOINTMENT.DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE POSITION:The work involves responsibility for performing technical duties, subordinate to those that require a Civil Engineer, in field and office civil engineering work in a local municipality. Under general supervision of an Engineer, an employee in this class serves as an engineering field party chief in conducting surveys. An employee in this class is responsible for preparing the site of construction projects with stakeouts and grade letters. Technical duties are performed in the areas of engineering studies, field surveys, evaluation, testing and quality control of construction materials and equipment and office technical work. Assignments are received orally or in writing with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment. Supervision is exercised over a small number of field survey personnel. Does related work as required.TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: Supervises and participates in topographic or hydrographic and land surveys. Assists in conducting engineering studies and investigations, construction inspection, demolition inspections and maintenance of contracts. Evaluates, tests and performs quality control work on construction materials manufactured equipment used in construction. Performs work involving office reduction and plotting of field survey data; checks engineering and cost calculations. Assists in the preparation of plans and specifications; design of engineering projects; preparation of contracts and their administration. Assists in the review of specifications and engineering drawings. Assists in the maintenance of office records and the preparation of contractors' payment requisitions.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Promotional: One (1) year of permanent competitive class status in the title of Engineering Technician I. Open Competitive:A. Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the or New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an associate degree in engineering science or in an engineering technology field and one (1) year of paraprofessional or professional level work experience in civil engineering; or,B. Three (3) years of paraprofessional or professional level work experience, or its part time equivalent, in civil engineering.Please include on the subject line of your email.
