Summary Neurologists play a crucial role in the healthcare system, focusing on the diagnosis, treatment, and management of neurological disorders while also providing education and training to residents and fellows. The 2-page Resume requirement does not apply to this occupational series. For more information, refer to Required Documents below. Responsibilities The Staff Neurologist will be responsible for, but not limited to the following duties: Provide all services required in the practice of Neurology in the context of the VA system and his/her clinical privileges. Provision of outpatient and inpatient neurological consultation with appropriate documentation in the electronic medical record within prescribed timeframes and accuracy. Interviews, examines, selects diagnostic testing appropriately, and interprets/collates results to coordinate patient care. Take calls from the ED as needed. Perform neurologic procedures, like NCS/EMG, EEG interpretation, botox administration, and/or other sup-specialty care that increases Veteran access and care. Certification in sub-specialty care not required to apply. Commensurate to his/her individual training and expertise, in accordance with local VA credentialing and privileging requirements. Perform, supervise, and interpret results of procedures related to Neurologic disorders. Shares after hour call responsibilities with section physicians in rotation. Follow facility stroke protocol. Supervision of residents and fellows in the outpatient and inpatient setting with appropriate documentation in the medical record. Supervise and teach neurology residents, fellows, and medical students during their rotation on neurology service. Provide clinical supervision and support to any Physician Assistants and/or Nurse Practitioners working in the Neurology clinic. Provide education to other physicians and healthcare professionals regarding neurological disorders and their treatments. Participating in quality assurance activities to ensure patient safety, performance improvement and quality of care. Ensuring patient privacy and confidentiality of patient medical information. Ensuring accurate CPT coding. Ensuring compliance with federal statutes, VA directives and policies, and The Joint Commission Standards. Perform administrative functions and other tasks as assigned by the Chief of Service Promote professional development through independent study and by attending education programs to increase knowledge base and maintain professional certification. Board Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology is required. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30 am- 4:00 pm. Compressed tours may be offered. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
