Job Description

The Department of Physiology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for a Research Associate position in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). Expertise is required in the specific area utilizing antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) as a therapeutic strategy to treat neurological disorders, RNA, and molecular biology fundamental principles and laboratory techniques. A strong record of original peer-reviewed publications, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills is also required. Candidates should have expertise and demonstrated experience in ASO design and utilization for both in vitro and in vivo studies. Candidates should have demonstrated experience working with neuronal cell culture and animal modeling of neurological disorders. Familiarity with synaptic physiology and disorders of synaptic function preferred. Applicants must have an M.D. and/or Ph.D degree. Responsibilities may include conducting independent and collaborative research, as well as preparation of manuscripts. The successful applicant will have an opportunity to receive mentorship in RNA therapeutics and therapeutic development for neurological disorders, function as a part of an interdisciplinary translational and clinical research team, receive mentorship in grant and manuscript writing and grants proposals suitable to early-stage academic investigators.
