Job Description

The Forklift Operator is a key role in safe and efficient yard operations. This position is responsible for loading and unloading materials, building loads for delivery, organizing inventory, assisting customers and drivers, and ensuring the accurate movement of lumber and building materials throughout the yard. The role requires the ability to operate equipment in a busy, fast‑paced environment.Responsibilities:Safely operate forklifts to move, load,and unload lumber and other building materials.Transport materials between storage areas, staging zones, and loading areas.Ensure materials are secure and protected from damage.Pull, stage, and prepare orders accurately.Assist drivers with locating or loading materials.Verify quantities and product before loading.Report damaged materials, inventory discrepancies, or safety hazards immediately.Provide excellent service to ensure a positive customer experience.Maintain clean and orderly yard areas to support safety and organization.Maintain situational awareness in a busy yard environment with multiple equipment types.Comply with OSHA and company safety standards at all times.Perform other duties as assignedQualifications:Experience operating forklifts in a lumber yard, warehouse, or construction setting preferred but not required.Knowledge of lumber sizes, grades, and common building materials helpful but not required.Ability to lift and move heavy materials (50-100 lbs).Strong communication and simple math skills.Reliable, safety‑oriented, and able to work in various weather conditions.Shepley Wood Products is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
