The Attending Psychiatrist for Homeless Services provides outreach-based psychiatric evaluation, treatment, consultation, and systems coordination for individuals experiencing homelessness who have serious and persistent mental illness. The psychiatrist works within shelters,Safe Havens,on the streets, and in community-based settings to engagehomelessDMH-eligible individuals,facilitateaccess to care, and support continuity of psychiatric services acrosssettings. This role is integral to advancing engagement, eligibility determination, and treatment planning for one of the most vulnerable populations served.Clinical Outreach and Direct CareConduct psychiatric outreach and provide continuity of care, whenappropriate, for homeless individuals living on the streets, in shelters,in Safe Havensor who have disengaged fromthe Massachusetts Mental Health Center (MMHC)outpatient services.Evaluate, diagnose, andinitiatepsychiatric treatment for individuals with serious and persistent mental illness.Provideongoingcommunity basedclinical assessmentsand treatmentfor individuals unable or unwilling, due to illness, to present to traditional clinic settings.Support development and implementation of individualized, clinicallyappropriate treatmentand intervention plans.As a member of a multidisciplinary team at MMHC outpatient clinic, provide clinical assessments and treatment to a caseload of individuals, particularly thosereferredfrom homeless services.Consultation and Collaborative CareServe as a consultant tostreet outreach,shelter-basedand Safe Havenstaff on complex cases requiring psychiatric assessment or intervention.Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to design treatment approaches for homeless individuals with complex psychiatric needs.Participate in case conferences and interdisciplinary meetings to guide clinical decision-making and service planning.Systems Navigation and Eligibility DeterminationAssistwith determination of eligibility for Department of Mental Health (DMH) services.Support fast-trackingservice access for homeless individuals deemed DMH-eligible.Collaborate closely with the DMH Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) and shelter staff on assessments,referrals, and hospitalizations.Education and SupervisionSupervise psychiatric residentsparticipatingin the PGY-III “Homeless” rotation.Serve as a discussion leader and clinical educator during resident conferences and training sessions related to homeless psychiatry.Provide guidance on best practices in outreach psychiatry, engagement strategies, and trauma-informed care.Program Development and Interagency CollaborationParticipate in development of programmatic outcomes and quality measures to inform homeless services programming.Act as a liaison to external agencies, includingbut not limited topublic health departments, developmental services, housing providers, and social service organizations.Contribute psychiatricexpertiseto the design and refinement of services tailored to homeless populations.Why Vinfen?
