FTE: 0.001000 Standard Hours: 0.01 Shift: Shift 4Shift Details: Holidays: Weekends: Job Summary: The Nurse Extern isresponsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluatingnursing care for an identified group of patients in assigned patientcare area under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. Otherduties as assigned. EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION: If in a 4-year program, aminimum experience of two acute care medical-surgical clinical rotations(or one medical-surgical rotation and one clinical rotation which ispertinent to the clinical area applying for) from an accredited schoolof nursing is required. If in a 2-year program or accelerated/directentry, must be in or have completed one medical - surgical clinicalrotation along with pertinent work experience is required. In addition,at least one of the clinical rotations must have included medicationadministration. Nursing courses/clinicals must have provided theory,knowledge and experience in providing patient care, performing patientcare procedures and techniques, as well as knowledge and experience inperforming physical assessments, gathering of history data, developmentof nursing care plans and medical record documentation. Experience ofsix months or more as a nursing assistant is preferred. EDUCATIONDESCRIPTION: Currently enrolled in an accredited School of Nursing isrequired, or a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing prepared totake the NCLEX or waiting to retake the NCLEX exam for a second time.SPECIAL SKILLS DESCRIPTION: Ability to read, write, understand, performsimple arithmetic, and follow directions related to basic patient terpersonal skills necessary to interact with patients, visitors, andphysicians in a courteous manner. Ability to complete simple comparisonsbetween numbers. Ability to show experience in 60 percent of essentialfunctions. Ability to concentrate and pay attention to detail for 80percent of work time when performing basic patient care tasks. Abilityto walk and stand for up to 80 percent of work time and to lift andposition patients for up to 20 percent of work time. LICENSUREDESCRIPTION: State of Wisconsin Nursing Assistant Certification ispreferred, otherwise must provide documentation from an accreditedschool for professional nurses indicating successful completion of thebasic nursing course which encompass all of the criteria noted by theState of Wisconsin administrative code. American Heart Association (AHA)Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approvedequivalent is required within 90 days of hire.
