Position Summary The Staff Full-Stack Software Engineer (Tech Lead) is a senior individual contributor and hands-on technical leader responsible for building, architecting, and optimizing Caremarku2019s next-generation digital experiences across web, mobile, and API layers. This role sets the technical direction for full-stack engineering teams, architects scalable and secure solutions, and ensures exceptional user experiences for millions of members, clients, and pharmacies. The Staff Engineer is a multiplier u2014 elevating the engineering bar, mentoring teams, and driving the delivery of high-impact capabilities. You will work across the full stack u2014 React/React Native, Node/Java/Python/Go, GraphQL, microservices, cloud infrastructure (Azure/GCP), CI/CD pipelines, and observability u2014 to deliver high-performance, reliable, and accessible digital products. u2e3b Key Responsibilities 1. Full-Stack Technical Leadership u2022 Architect end-to-end solutions spanning frontend, backend, APIs, cloud, and data layers. u2022 Lead the design and implementation of reusable components, UI libraries, GraphQL APIs, and microservices. u2022 Partner with UX and product leads to translate user journeys into scalable, secure digital experiences. u2022 Establish full-stack engineering standards, design patterns, and best practices. 2. Hands-on Engineering Excellence u2022 Write high-quality, production-ready code across both frontend and backend stacks. u2022 Drive complex debugging, performance tuning, and reliability improvements. u2022 Implement automated testing across UI, API, and service layers (unit, integration, E2E). u2022 Enforce secure coding practices and ensure compliance (HIPAA, PHI, PII). 3. API, Microservices & Cloud Architecture u2022 Build and evolve REST + GraphQL APIs , microservices (Java, Go, Node, Python), and orchestration layers. u2022 Advocate for modern client-server patterns such as BFF (Backend-for-Frontend) and distributed caching. u2022 Partner with Platform Engineering on cloud architecture, containers, Kubernetes, serverless, and CI/CD pipelines. 4. Ownership & Delivery Leadership u2022 Lead technical execution for major features, re-architecting efforts, or platform modernization initiatives. u2022 Break ambiguous problems into clear technical plans, sequencing, and deliverables. u2022 Conduct design reviews, code reviews, and architecture reviews across multiple teams. u2022 Identify technical risks, propose mitigation strategies, and ensure delivery excellence. 5. Influence & Cross-Functional Collaboration u2022 Collaborate with Product, Platform, AI, SRE, and Integration teams to deliver cohesive digital experiences. u2022 Influence engineering decisions across teams to maintain alignment with architecture and digital standards. u2022 Communicate technical strategy and trade-offs with leadership and stakeholders. 6. Mentorship & Engineering Culture u2022 Mentor senior and mid-level engineers on full-stack development, architecture, and clean coding. u2022 Lead knowledge-sharing sessions and engineering workshops. u2022 Foster a culture of innovation, craftsmanship, accessibility, and continuous improvement. u2e3b Required Qualifications u2022 10+ years of full-stack software engineering experience delivering large-scale digital products. u2022 Expert-level proficiency in: Frontend: React, React Native, TypeScript, JavaScript Backend: Java, Go, NodeJS, Python APIs: REST, GraphQL, gRPC Cloud: Azure, GCP, or AWS with Kubernetes/Docker u2022 Strong understanding of UX, accessibility (WCAG), responsive design, and performance optimization. u2022 Experience building resilient distributed systems and event-driven architectures (Kafka). u2022 Hands-on experience with CI/CD, automated testing, GitOps, and observability tooling. u2022 Strong architecture skills and familiarity with DDD, microservices, and modular monolith patterns. u2022 Excellent communication and documentation skills. u2e3b Preferred Qualifications u2022 Experience building design systems , reusable UI frameworks, or component libraries. u2022 Experience integrating AI features (chatbots, personalization, translation). u2022 Experience with secure coding, OAuth2/OIDC, and API gateway patterns. u2022 Background in healthcare, PBM, fintech, or other regulated environments. Pay Range The typical pay range for this role is: $118,450.00 - $236,900.00 This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
