Summary of Duties - Pipefitter (levels I, II, III) with limited supervision, performs variety of skilled mechanical duties involving general fitting piping systems on vessels, burning/brazing, testing and sketching piping systems. Operates equipment for assembly and installation; performs preventative and predictive maintenance on facility machinery; records work performed and follows specified safety policies and procedures. May be assigned the duties and responsibilities of other positions for which qualifications are met. Periodically required to lift/move equipment up to and including 50 pounds. Specific Description of Duties - u2022 Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications or sample part, with minimal supervision, to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. u2022 Ability to work in a shop setting as well as onboard a ship. u2022 Ability to work in tight and/or confined spaces. u2022 Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications. u2022 Know the basic tools required and their uses. u2022 Identification of piping by class, schedule, size, and the systems in which they are used. u2022 Know types of bevels, backing rings, consumable inserts (E/B ring), open roots, saddles, and miters. u2022 Layout, fabricate, assemble, install and maintain piping, piping systems, fixtures and equipment. u2022 Works with steam, water, air, fuel, lube oil, sea water, and various chemicals. u2022 Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch of part or product to be fabricated. u2022 Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. u2022 Experience with SMAW and GTAW for tacking purposes of piping, hangers, brackets, and other items to support on-site installations. u2022 Assembles piping by means of welding, brazing, soldering, threading, lock ringing and bolting. u2022 Cuts and bores holes in structures, decks, bulkheads, and walls by use of torch, handheld, or other power tools. u2022 Maintains cleanliness of the work area. u2022 Responsible for training/oversite of junior personnel. u2022 Overtime is routinely required but not guaranteed. u2022 Travel outside the local area may be required. u2022 Perform any other assignments or tasks as needed or requested by management to assist in accomplishing the organization's mission, objectives and goals. Including the periodic oversight of junior less skilled Welders as applicable. Education/Specialized Training - Level I - u2022 HS diploma or GED may be required depending on varying contract stipulations. u2022 Apprenticeship or Welding trade school with six months practical experience or one year of practical relatable experience. Level II - u2022 HS diploma or GED may be required depending on varying contract stipulations. u2022 Apprenticeship or applicable trade school with three years, or four years practical related experience. u2022 Certificate documentation required for listed education. u2022 Fire watch certification. Level III - u2022 HS diploma or GED may be required depending on varying contract stipulations. u2022 Apprenticeship or applicable trade school with six years practical experience, or 8 years related experience. u2022 Certificate documentation required for listed education. u2022 Certification documentation in areas of expertise. u2022 Fire watch certification. Security Clearance - u2022 Clearance up to secret level may be required. Physical/Environmental Job Requirements - u2022 Lifting/moving up to and including 50 pounds. u2022 Routinely climbing several flights of stairs. u2022 Performing tasks in confined spaces. Our work is primarily onboard naval vessels that may include variables of physical activity, i.e. stooping, climbing, walking, etc. In performing these duties, you may be required to work outdoors. You will experience temperature variations, extremely loud noises and other physical hazards.
