What You Will Do This role will responsible for pulling medications for pyxis replenishing and unit dose repackaging. Required Qualifications + Other : Education pursuant to licensure requirement. + California Pharmacy Technician License (TCH) - CA State Board of Pharmacy -REQUIRED Preferred Qualifications + H.S. Diploma or Equivalent + 1 Year experience in hospital pharmacy environment. + Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board -PREFERRED + Experience with medication repackaging + Experience working with a box picker/medication carousal machine. Essential Functions + Collaboration and teamworkOperational Services (dealing with internal customers).Clearly communicates goals, instructions, information to other staff members, including handoffs between shifts (written/oral).Participates in staff orientation and resident/student training programs.Effectively intercepts and troubleshoots problems, as demonstrated by effective problem solving, prioritization of issues with respect to level of significance and impact to patient care, safety, workflow, and communication.When faced with complex situations, has knowledge of and applies the appropriate policies and procedures.Effectively evaluates ongoing workflow issues as and directs daily workload to achieve efficiency and maximize resource utilization as business needs require.Attends and participates in staff meetings or reviews staff meeting communications.Reads work related email at a minimum on assigned workdays.Customer Service/Interdepartmental Relations (dealing with external customers).Answers phone in timely, friendly manner, stating name and title.Responds to requests in timely, caring manner that is consistent with Sharp behavior standards, (i.e. attitude). + Daily operationsContributes to Financial Viability; Inventory Cost Management/Containment.Workflow and Operations.Consistently carry out duties according to the position description, professional, and hospital standards.Anticipates the impact of duties on others, and proactively identifies potential problems.Medication and pharmacy supply storage locations on assigned patient care units are maintained, neat, clean, organized, and labeled.Performs and documents routing cleaning of area, including but not limited to horizontal laminar flow hood and biological safety cabinet contiguous admixture areas, and shelving areas. Performs any tubing and IV solution changes, equipment setup, testing and calibrations according to department procedures 100% of the time.Maintains environment within guidelines; Monitors and documents refrigerator/freezer temperatures daily and follows-up on variances.Follows departmental guidelines regarding sterile compounding (USP797) in the preparation of IV pletes and documents assigned inspections.Demonstrates proficiency with and utilization of automation and advances in technology (Carecast, Clinicomp, Pyxis Profile, Rx Check, Automix, repackaging robotics, physician order entry, etc.).Problems maintaining locations are brought to the attention of the unit manager and the pharmacist responsible for the area.Consistently uses time at work effectively and ventory / municates special or urgent needs to buyer.Contributes to appropriate inventory by keeping par levels to minimum, as demonstrated by not over purchasing, or making requests whereby stock exceeds minimum par, or reasonable anticipatory levels.Quality control and inventory procedures are completed daily by accurately inventorying, ordering and restocking assigned areas.Expired / Wastage.Contributes to managing appropriate inventory levels to decrease staleness and wastage by rotating stock and keeping inventories low.Reduces pharmaceutical and supply waste whenever possible.Removes outdated and unusable medications to segregated storage site. Performs and documents routine expired product sweeps/searches on regular or assigned basis.Makes attempts to use short dated items first and/or by intervening to move short dated items to high use area or area where probability of it being used is pletes all borrow loan paperwork legibly and timely to ensure recouping of expenses.Waste (ie. hazardous, rcra, pharmaceutical, chemo) - Complies and follows wastestream protocols, and maintains integrity of pharmacy waste streams. + Pharmacy operationsPreparation for Distribution (Unit Dose, Pyxis, IV compounding).Fill Lists: Contributes to efficient pharmacy operations by printing, accurately filling, and verifying completion of all fill lists associated with Pyxis MedStation operations, unit dose patient cassettes, IV medications, and floor stock. Generates all required Fill Lists (ie. Pyxis, Cassettes, IV meds, Preparation (Filling) etc.) and consistently prioritizes and accomplishes fill list related workload to meet service level ventory: Inventory Par levels are maintained within established levels. Inventory is filled accurately with correct medications/supplies consistent with current approved floor stock sheet.Prepackaging: Prepares and performs prepackaging of medications, labels and documents the pre-packing / re-packaging of unit dose, bulk and compounded medications according to policy, procedure and regulatory standards.IV Preparation: Demonstrates knowledge and competency of IV Admixture / Aseptic Technique including the standards of USP 79 Demonstrates knowledge and competency of chemotherapy/hazardous med preparation.Unit Dose Fill: Unit Dose cassettes are maintained in a clean and orderly condition. Sustains a high level of accuracy by consistently selecting the correct medication, dosage, and strength. Obtains pharmacist check prior to dispensing 100% of the time. Prepackaging of medications is completed before the exchange.Pyxis Fill: Accurately and within designated time frames completes pyxis fill. Maintains pyxis MedStations in a clean and orderly condition.Distribution / Delivery.Performs medication exchanges; ensures meds are accurately placed in correct and secure location, and that discontinued meds are pulled and returned.Appropriately reconciles the cassettes; making sure the current active orders for products are in the right cassette. Transfer all bulks items appropriately to the new cassette, removing outdated, dc'd, or other patients medications from the cassette.Where applicable, contributes toward optimizing use of pyxis with respect to new loads where the goal is to have very few medications in the cassette/baggie exchange.Assuring Emergency Drug Supply (ie. crash cart trays, rapid response team med boxes) filling, refilling, documentation and processing performed.Reconciliation.Transfers; meds are delivered to the right location, taking into account patient transfers.Perform Billing Adjustments. Accurately documents doses dispensed/credited on fill lists.Pick up excess stock and discontinued/discharged patient medications and returns to pharmacy or appropriate waste stream.Meds returned to stock that are eligible for credit are credited appropriately.Assists with narcotic inventories as applicable. + Pharmacy operations
