NS HVAC Mechanical Technician (40 hrs/wk, 260 days)Nutrition ServicesSUMMARY DESCRIPTIONUnder general supervision, of the HVAC Shop Supervisor, performs senior journey level maintenance and repair work on boilers and heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems district-wide; acts as technical consultant; insures proper maintenance of boilers, chillers, electrical controls and pneumatic pressure control systems. HVAC systems, DDC building control systems and mechanical equipment, electrical systems, at all District facility. Insures proper maintenance of electrical, electronic, pneumatic, DDC control systems, and performs related work as required; and maintains operational and administrative records and reports. As needed the position may be assigned to day shift, swing shift or graveyard shift.EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES- Inspects boilers and heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems for proper operation and maintenance procedures; updates, remodels and performs the most complicated and difficult maintenance and mechanical repairs on boilers, HVAC systems and all related equipment; repairs and adjusts electrical and pneumatic pressure control equipment; tests and maintains safety switches and controls; and repairs refractories and fireboxes, including but not limited to cleaning of fireside and waterside of boilers; has to be fit tested with respirator to do boiler cleaning; tests water treatment on hot water, chilled water, steam and other treated hydronic systems. Maintains and repairs ground source heat pump systems.- Provides technical guidance and preventative maintenance training to Custodians, Maintenance Technicians and other boiler operators; coordinates and oversees the preparation of boilers and other vessels for yearly inspection and certification; tests boiler feed waters; and reviews State, local and District policies and consults with Health Department and other governing agencies regarding necessary changes. Manage large HVAC maintenance projects. Assist with energy analysis studies. Identify and prioritize equipment repair and replacement needs through Facility's condition inspection system.- Estimates time and material costs for repairs made by vendors and contractors; maintains accurate logs and records of test results, preventative maintenance activities, and major repair work performed; and takes and maintains inventory of supplies, equipment and parts. Fills out material disturbance permits to comply with District and Health Department policy. Reviews plans for new schools and major projects and assists with development of construction standards to provide a better finished construction product.- May be required to physically perform AHERA Class III disturbances to asbestos containing building materials as directed in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations. May be required to physically perform OSHA lead remediation in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations. May be required to physically perform mold remediation in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations.EMPLOYMENT STANDARDSEducation/Experience: Any combination equivalent to education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:Five (5) years of varied journey level experience with boilers and heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems;OREquivalent to completion of a recognized HVAC apprenticeship program or graduation from an accredited trade or technical school with major course work in boiler and heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems;Three (3) years of verifiable work experience under a licensed contractor performing varied and complex boiler, heating, ventilating and air conditioning installation, maintenance and repair ctivities.Knowledge of: Techniques, procedures and tools used for advanced journey level mechanical maintenance and repair of boilers, chillers, ventilating and air conditioning systems, water pumps, motors, variable air volume supply systems and electrical and pneumatic pressure control systems, basic computer skills are required in order to operate and manage energy management software; State and local codes and regulations applicable to repair and maintenance of boiler, chiller systems; and acknowledge the related hazards and safety precautions.Skill at: Working independently; performing advanced journey level activities in diagnosing and repairing boilers, chillers and heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems and related equipment and systems; reading, interpreting and following mechanical and electrical drawings, technical manuals, blueprints and specification sheets; observing safety practices; understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions; performing heavy manual labor; making estimates of materials and labor costs; preparing and maintaining related operational records and reports; working effectively with computer generated work order systems; functioning as in-house technical advisor and trainer; and establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in course of work.Licenses/Certificates: Possession of a valid Nevada Driver's License with a driving record acceptable to the District; must maintain a valid driver License.Certification: Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Certification; Universal Certification will be required within the probation period.Certification: AHERA 16 Hour asbestos training, asbestos certification is required within the first 12 months of employment. Employer will provide training.Special Requirements Applicants will be required to pass physical and full mask or half mask respirator fit test( if able) under this requirement, the employee may not be able to have certain facial hair, like beard, long sideburns or mustache that may interfere with the passing of the fit test.
