Job Description

MEP Technician II is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and service on the electrical - mechanical systems supporting the Data Center. The ideal candidate will have an extensive background in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, with the ability to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair a wide range of building systems to ensure safe and efficient operations. Educate and train other TierPoint personnel on tasks related to the mechanical-electrical systems and components. Responsible for facility electrical / mechanical systems, documentation and ongoing service and support. Provides high quality, accurate, consistent, and efficient work for internal and external customer service surrounding the Company valuesAdopt and use defined systems, tools, procedures, processes, and standardsProactively manage ticket queue for timely request and response completionManage and complete assigned projects and report progressUpdate documentation in a timely and accurate mannerPerform all daily operational tasksInstallation and termination of network and communication wiringSupport and validate power infrastructure and deploymentProvide remote hands and eyes support for internal or external client issuesEnsure all aspects of the physical infrastructure are kept clean and orderlyPerform routine physical inspections for alarm identification and operational issuesUnderstand and follow escalation proceduresAdhere to security procedures and controlsFollow all safety guidelines and best practicesIn emergency situations, dispatch technicians and or vendors, as needed, in the absence of Management.Provide technical guidance to less experienced site personnel.Installation and termination of network, access control and communication wiring and componentsRecord and maintain power metrics and other related details on a regular basis.Installation of new equipment and removal of systems as requiredAssist in the physical installation of computer equipment and components, cable tray, and cabling.Other responsibilities as required.Electrical Significant experience in operating, troubleshooting, repairing and assisting in performance on preventative maintenance of TierPoint’s electrical systems and components. These can include but are not limited to: Low and medium voltage switch gear, static transfer switches, power distribution units, remote power panels, branch circuits, large or medium voltage diesel generator systems, large UPS systems, building fire alarm / life safety, fire suppression systems and critical infrastructure monitoring systems.Install and repair connectivity demarcation units for electrical and telecommunications circuitry.Strong knowledge in all aspects of Data Center electrical operations. HVAC/Plumbing Significant experience supporting HVAC and environmental operationsOperate, troubleshoot, repair and perform preventative maintenance on TierPoint’s mechanical systems and components. These can include but are not limited to: CRAC/CRAH units, condensing coils, rooftop units, chillers, cooling towers, and associated components for HVAC and plumbing systems.Strong knowledge in all aspects of Data Center mechanical operations. Minimum Qualifications - ElectricalStrong proficiency with the following:Multi-module or single module UPS systemsLow and medium voltage switchgearLow and medium voltage diesel generatorsRaised floor or overhead bus power distributionPLC controls and componentsExercise flexibility in challenging situationsAbility to read and analyze blueprints and construction drawings including one line diagramsExcellent interpersonal and leadership skills to provide direction to Operations Technicians in absence of ManagementWorking knowledge of automated building control systemsPossesses and applies a broad knowledge of standards, practices and procedures of installing, testing and operating electrical and mechanical equipment. Usually works with limited supervision.Minimum Qualifications - Mechanical/PlumbingStrong proficiency with the following:Datacenter HVAC and related components; ie CRAC/CRAH, chillers, cooling towers and rooftop unitsPlumbing/Piping and related componentsPLC controls and componentsProven proficiency in the operation of 100% uptime data centers, critical facilities environment or industrial power systemsExercise flexibility in challenging situationsExcellent oral and written communication and customer service skillsExtensive experience with detailed record keeping and data entry accuracyAbility to read and analyze blueprints and construction drawings including one-line diagramsWorking knowledge of automated building control systemsPossesses and applies a broad knowledge of standards, practices and procedures of installing, testing and operating electrical and mechanical equipment. Usually works with limited supervision.Preferred Qualifications 6 + years of technical training or related experience working in a mission critical building engineering operation. 3 + years as a Journeyman Electrician or HVAC Technician with satisfactory or better performance plus three years of industry experience. Associate degree in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering, Engineering / Mechanical Technology, Construction Management, a related field or equivalent experience.Current Journeyman or Master Electrician’s license or Universal CFC Refrigeration License in good standing with the local authorities or equivalent experience.Technical training may be trade school or manufacturers training on UPS systems, medium voltage switchgear, low voltage power distribution units, building automation systems, 1.0 megawatt and larger engine-generator sets and/or large diesel engines, and other training directly related to the operation and maintenance of electrical / mechanical plant in a high reliability environment.Familiarity with ASHRAE, NEC and NFPA.Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skillsAbility to work on multiple projects simultaneouslyProficiency in using MS Office Suite and Windows-based computer applicationsAbility to use a ladder to work in elevated areasWorking Conditions Facility / construction environmentResponding to 24x7 electrical and mechanical operational issues, which requires off-hour coverageData center environment - sensitive computer equipment and complex power/cooling systemsAbility to work in controlled environments and handle physical tasks such as lifting hardware or navigating confined spaces.Pay TransparencyTierPoint is committed to practices that promote pay equity and transparency.
