Job Description

The Graphic Designer Intern will support the Training Aids, Devices, Simulators and Simulations (TADSS) business unit in developing visual design assets for Interactive Multimedia Instruction (IMI). The intern will work within an Agile software development environment alongside Instructional Systems Designers, 3D Artists, Software Developers, and Program Managers to create training solutions for Department of Defense customers. The intern will gain hands-on experience in defense sector design work while applying classroom knowledge to real-world projects. This position is for the Summer 2026 term and will be an onsite internship in Huntsville, ALCreate visual design assets and graphics for Interactive Multimedia Instruction (IMI) projects supporting DOD training developmentCollaborate with Agile development teams to deliver design solutions that meet project requirements and timelinesReproduce key art and design within the confines of established style guides and branding standardsParticipate in design reviews and incorporate feedback from cross-functional team membersUtilize rapid prototyping tools to iterate on design concepts quickly and efficientlyEstimate time requirements for assigned design tasks and manage workload accordinglyProvide design support across multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environmentOther duties as assignedEducation/Experience:Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Digital Media, or related field at an accredited college/university at the time of the internship (Summer 2026) or semester immediately following (Fall 2026)Required minimum GPA is 3.0Must have completed at least 2 years of higher education (relevant job experience may be substituted)0-2 years of relevant design experienceCommunity and/or campus involvement is preferredAbility to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearanceU.S. Citizenship is requiredKnowledge/Skills:Design Skills:Knowledge and/or experience with design and rapid prototyping tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Figma, Sketch, Avocode, Zeplin, or similar applicationsUnderstanding of essential design principles including typography, color theory, composition, and visual hierarchyAbility to work within established brand guidelines and style standardsCapability to reproduce key art and adapt existing design systemsPortfolio of design work (preferred but not required)Professional Skills:Strong communication and teamwork abilities; comfortable collaborating with diverse technical and creative professionalsHighly organized with exceptional attention to detailAbility to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks across multiple projectsCreative, adaptive, and eager to learn new tools and processesProfessional demeanor when interacting with customers and team membersAbility to work both independently and as part of a collaborative teamComfortable receiving and implementing constructive feedbackThrives in a fast-paced, dynamic work environmentProficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)Addititional Information:Duration: Summer internship (approximately 10-12 weeks), with potential for extension based on performance and project needsWork Schedule: Part-time position. Regular hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday, however, schedule flexibility may be available.
