Location: Jackson, MSSchedule: Monday-Friday, Days | On-Call Coverage Aptive is seeking a full-time Gastroenterologist to support a rewarding opportunity with the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson, MS. This position offers exceptional schedule stability, strong clinical support, and the opportunity to care for America’s Veterans within a dedicated outpatient practice environment.The Gastroenterologist will provide comprehensive care for patients who have illnesses within the scope of Gastroenterology. In addition to patient care, the physician may have responsibilities in other areas such as education, committees, peer review, and quality and safety measures. Overall, the role is well-supported operationally and clinically, with consistent staffing, defined schedules, and mission-aligned leadership. As the service continues to expand access, this provider will meaningfully contribute to program development and continuity of patient services. Provide comprehensive gastroenterology care to Veterans including consultations, liver transplant workups, referrals, and aftercareIdentifying patients' health problems and designing diagnostic and therapeutic plans to meet these needsCoordinate activities of other health service personnel, resolving problems affecting patient care and providing appropriate education for the patient/family members regarding the patient's care, patient's illness and its managementCollaborate closely with the interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, nurses practitioners, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and community partners.Clinical ProceduresThe Gastroenterology Staff Physician is expected to be proficient in diagnostic and therapeutic gastroenterology procedures, which may include: Upper GI endoscopy (esophagogastroduodenoscopy)Colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopyEndoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)PolypectomySmall bowel biopsyLiver biopsyEsophageal dilation (bougie or balloon)Esophageal motility studiesLaparoscopy (peritoneoscopy)Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG)Laser photocoagulation of vesselsLaser tumor ablationGastric lavage and cytologySclerotherapy of esophageal varicesEsophageal band ligation of varicesEndoscopic ultrasonography, with or without fine-needle aspiration biopsyPlacement of esophageal stents Work Environment & ScheduleMonday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.Shared GI call rotation for inpatient consults and urgent procedures, including nights and weekends as scheduledCollaborative support from nursing and administrative personnelCompensation & Benefits$300,000-$400,000 salaryEligibility for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) up to $200,000Comprehensive federal benefits package including:Health, dental, and vision insuranceFederal retirement programs with matching contributionsPaid federal holidays and paid annual leaveContinuing education support and malpractice coverageEligibility for performance-based pay and recruitment, relocation, or retention incentives, as approvedOpportunity for additional compensation through on-call responsibilities or extended coverage, where applicableRetention and relocation incentives may be available for highly qualified applicants Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree from an accredited medical schoolS. citizenshipCompletion of an ACGME-accredited Gastroenterology fellowship program that led to board eligibility in Gastroenterology (required)Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territoryEligibility for VA credentialing and privileging in accordance with Professional Standards Board requirementsDemonstrated ability to provide gastroenterology care to patients Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across interdisciplinary teams1-2 years’ work experience in inpatient and outpatient Gastroenterology/HepatologyExperience in academics- teaching medical trainees to include GI fellows, residents, and medical studentsExperience in inpatient GI management of patients including therapeutic endoscopies and colonoscopies in the setting of GI bleedingExperience in outpatient management of acute and chronic GI and hepatology conditionsExperience in the management of patients who are being evaluated for liver transplant and who have previously received a liver transplantExperience in performing outpatient endoscopies and colonoscopies and ability to read capsule endoscopies.Excellent organizational and communication skills with ability to function at a high level in a complex, busy clinical environmentOptional:Ability to perform advanced endoscopy including ERCP, EUS, stenting, and/or complex EMRArrow ARC supports Veterans Health Administration facilities and offices across the U.S. with health care staffing and program support via the 10-year Integrated Critical Staffing Program (ICSP).
