FTE: 0.001000 Standard Hours:0.01 Shift: Shift 4 Shift Details: Candidates have 2 options: 1. OPT,work either (1) 8 or (1) 12 hour shift per week 2. 0.3 FTE, work (1) 12hour shift per week, benefit to an FTE is PTO earning potential and canuse badge to buy things on campus Job Summary: Under the supervision anddirection of a Registered Nurse, the Nurse Extern provides routine careand assist patients with the following tasks related to the activitiesof daily living. Responsible to the Patient Care Director of theassigned unit and the RN's on duty on each assigned shift. Other dutiesas assigned. EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION: If in a 4-year program, a minimumexperience of two acute care medical-surgical clinical rotations (or onemedical-surgical rotation and one clinical rotation which is pertinentto the clinical area applying for) from an accredited school of nursingis required. If in a 2-year program or accelerated/direct entry, must bein or have completed one medical - surgical clinical rotation along withpertinent work experience is required. In addition, at least one of theclinical rotations must have included medication administration. Nursingcourses/clinicals must have provided theory, knowledge and experience inproviding patient care, performing patient care procedures andtechniques, as well as knowledge and experience in performing physicalassessments, gathering of history data, development of nursing careplans and medical record documentation. Experience of six months or moreas a nursing assistant is preferred. EDUCATION DESCRIPTION: Currentlyenrolled in an accredited School of Nursing is required, or a graduateof an accredited School of Nursing prepared to take the NCLEX or waitingto retake the NCLEX exam for a second time. SPECIAL SKILLS DESCRIPTION:Ability to read, write, understand, perform simple arithmetic, andfollow directions related to basic patient care. Interpersonal skillsnecessary to interact with patients, visitors, and physicians in acourteous manor. Ability to complete simple comparisons between numbers.Ability to show experience in 60 percent of essential functions. Abilityto concentrate and pay attention to detail for 80 percent of work timewhen performing basic patient care tasks. Ability to walk and stand forup to 80 percent of work time and to lift and position patients for upto 20 percent of work time.
